Twang welcomes Pencilsqueezer to the pod for a rambling one to one discussion taking in life, art, music, creativity and Walter Trout’s liver. With true artistic control, the boys go approximately an hour over schedule and the resultant ‘cast is a sadly cut down version of the master tape which will be available in the to-be released AW Podcast Masters series.
Volunteers for a rambling chat with Twang for the pod please PM!

Haven’t heard the whole thing yet, but want to say he appears to be a lovely man, does @Pencilsqueezer.
retropath2 says
He is.
Twang says
You didn’t hear the bits I cut out!
No, he’s a lovely bloke.
Moose the Mooche says
Ace!
And what about Walter Liver’s Trout? Other restaurant meal choices are available…
SteveT says
I prefer Walter’s Liver and Onions.
Vince Black says
I just finished listening to this and enjoyed it very much. The bit near the end where Pencil describes how he decides what a commissioning client wants describes my experience exactly. I met him and the lovely Donna briefly at a Mingle in a tiny bar in Ancoats, Manchester. We had all brought CD compilations to swap and I was very taken with his CD of Memphis songs. I emailed him to ask for a track listing, and then, having looked at his website asked if he might paint something for me, with the slight problem that I know very little about art, but know what I like. He made the process very simple by saying “tell me which paintings on the website you like best, and which you like least”. I did that easily enough and he said “I’ll do one for you, send you a photo, and if you don’t like it I’ll do something else.” Although that sounds like a ridiculously risky business model, there was never any danger of him doing another one. I was astonished by the photograph and gave the go ahead for framing straight away
The second one was the result of a cunning sales pitch by Donna at a Mingle in Chester. I showed her a photo of Blue Trane on a wall in my house, and she said “It looks a bit lonely to me. Like it needs a mate” That led fairly swiftly to its companion piece Red Trane. They are beautiful and unique objects and I would recommend any of the Massive to give Pencil a shout. A Pencilsqueezer original will brighten up your life

This is ace!
mikethep says
Top chuntering, chaps!
slotbadger says
That was a fantastic episode, what a lovely conversation and peek into the mind of an artist. More! More!
Carolina says
Gosh, that hour whizzed by – excellent listening, guys. Fascinating to hear all about Pencil’s music and art histories, from the prize winning Pyramids to dire Golden Earring gig, and work ethics from the dismal task of sorting nails to discussing the creative process of how a painting develops. Interesting that you both mainly listen to female voices – I do too, and wondered if that was a gender thing but obviously not. And if you like Miserable Women Singing To You, may I commend the new release by Weyes Blood Titanic Rising, which is terrific.
Tiggerlion says
Weyes Blood is indeed terrific.
I’ll be keenly listening to this conversation later.
Mike_H says
A very good listen. Well done, chaps!
fentonsteve says
I’ve been gardening all day and listened to the 8 most recent ‘casts back to back. Outstanding work.
What will I listen to tomorrow, though? Slotbadger’s Bowie ones, I think.
Tiggerlion says
You don’t like The White Album?
fentonsteve says
I listened to that one as I glossed the skirting boards in my bathroom at half term.
I can’t abide decorating, or gardening, without a podcast to listen to. I’d pay someone else to do it, but I’d end up with less money to buy records with.
minibreakfast says
@fentonsteve If you’re still in need of some listening, this new podcast by a couple of my Twitter chums might fit the bill. It’s called We Buy Records, and is very entertaining.

fentonsteve says
That’s really good. Like having a couple of my friends in my ears.
Twang says
Cheers Fenton.
slotbadger says
Ah! I hope you enjoy them!
Locust says
My classical musician father practices for hours every day, at 92 and long retired from performing. His hands are arthritic and his instrument (the contrabass) is old and falling apart, but according to him he’s getting a little better every day. Also, it’s what gets him out of bed in the morning!
Nice chat, well done the both of you!
Next up, how about asking @Kaisfatdad how he got into all of the weird and wonderful music from around the world that he champions on the blog? I’d listen to that episode! 🙂
Twang says
Great idea Locust!
Gary says
Yes! Ask him if he’s got a son. And if so, what’s his name.
Kaisfatdad says
Bloody cheek! You can ask me about my waistline too while you are at it!!
I am delighted that Pencilsqueezer has been spreading such joy. I too enjoy having a natter with him on Bacefook.
I would be delighted @Locust to tell you about how I discovered all these global goodies that I champion. But we can do it face to face! Still looking forward to that Stockholm mingle!!
Locust says
Not keen to find global fame through the Afterword Podcast, then? 😉
I can’t say I blame you, I wouldn’t do it either, but I thought it would make an interesting episode…we’ll make that mingle happen at some point, I’m sure. If not in the near future, then when we’re all retired! (Except I hear from my retired friends and family that they’ve never been busier…) 😀
Twang says
I confirm that I have tried to recruit @locust but she nicely but firmly declined.
All together:
“we want Locust!”
Gary says
How very biblical.
nigelthebald says
😀
retropath2 says
In another story, who would like to interview @Twang ? Just saying……
Twang says
I think per pod minute there’s rather a lot of me already out there. But still, I could talk about the Tull…(actually, there’s a whole cast on them. .).
Locust says
Twang:
All together:
“we want Locust!”
The Afterword:
*crickets*
😀
Tiggerlion says
We want Locust!
pencilsqueezer says
We want Locust!
Locust says
Thanks guys…but no. 🙂
Don’t be sad, I’d sound like a mix between the Muppet chef and Peter Sellers in The Party (I only get to actually speak English with our many Indian customers at the store…)
Tiggerlion says
Sounds brilliant!!
duco01 says
Men Locust – Vi skulle kunna göra intervjun på svenska. Problemet löst!
Gary says
Vi vill ha Locust!
pencilsqueezer says
Hi folks. Thanks for the kindness. Few things in life constitute time better spent than the time we spend in the company of friends. It was a blast chatting to Twang. I highly recommend it.
Baron Harkonnen says
Hi Pencil, hope you’re well. I’ve never listened to any of these ‘casts but will make an exception for you.
Gary says
So, you prefer Pencilsqueezer to Carolina is what you’re telling us? I haven’t decided yet, myself. They both have their charms.
Twang says
I think you really need to listen to the preceding 81 to really understand the context. 😁
Moose the Mooche says
“Episode 83…. war is coming….” *dramatic drumming*
Baron Harkonnen says
No chance, too much good music to listen to, books to read, movies to watch, painting the house, ha, delete that last one.
Twang says
This is the proto-rap number I couldn’t remember. Terrific!
Blue Boy says
As with the Carolina one that was a fascinating listen – thanks chaps. More of this sort of thing.
Robbie1112 says
Great chat guys.
Pencil is one of a small handful of people who I picked up on FB when the original site was pulled from under our feet. Never met him in person but his openness on his art, his movies/music, politics and life’s challenges warms me to him immensely. This one-to-one cast only supported my previous opinion.
Love the fact that his dad opened a jazz club. Jeez … and I thought my dad was cool.
Long may you run Mr Squeezer.

Moose the Mooche says
Amen!
nigelthebald says
So that’s what Peter sounds like!
I shall have to recalibrate my mind’s ear.
Twang says
He’s as handsome as he sounds.
nigelthebald says
I know what he looks like, and you’re not wrong 🙂
Tiggerlion says
Both voices are so manly, they could roast chestnuts.
Moose the Mooche says
New strapline for The Afterword…”Splash it all over….hurrrr”
pencilsqueezer says
One to one podcasting with Twang is not dissimilar to this only with added Tull.
Moose the Mooche says
“Oooch! I caught me bum on the companion set!”
Junior Wells says
LOL
Can I endorse the comments of @Vince-Black regarding purchasing a Squeezer? As recounted here previously my dealings were done across land and sea with the final product being sent frameless to save shipping costs.
Still the first thing I see when I walk into the family room and still delights.
Looking forward to this podcast.
Twang says
What transpires in the pod stays in the pod, that’s the rule.
el hombre malo says
I have bought several works from @pencilsqueezer – they all continue to bring joy to my family and our visitors. If you like his work (you can see some of it here https://pencilsqueezerartwork.weebly.com/the-images-03.html ) then it is worth thinking about buying some – it is the purchase that keeps on giving. And by no means expensive
(he’s a lovely chap, too)
Mousey says
Really enjoyed this, especially hearing the actual voice of an online friend. Articulate buggers us AWers aren’t we?
Gary says
I’m not.
pencilsqueezer says
I’ve heard that you are so drop dead gorgeous that words for you have become in effect redundant.
Gary says
Did Twang tell you that? I suspected he might.
pencilsqueezer says
He went on and on and on about your remarkable pulchritude Gary. I had to distract him in the end by making disparaging remarks about Dixie Chicken.
Junior Wells says
@Twang , a bit behind he technology. I have got an iphone 7. I asumed I could just listen via itunes but no, apparently I need a specific app.
What should I use?
Twang says
You should just be able to hit play on the little widget in the post, otherwise subscribe to the podcast in iTunes if you’re an Apple user in the Store. Then use whatever the Apple podcasts app is. I use Podcast Addict on Android.
Feedback_File says
Good chat – bizarrely worked well for my gym workout this afternoon. Enjoyed the stuff about inspiration and the ephemeral nature of the creative process with which I fully concur.
niallb says
Lovely chat. Well done both.
Beezer says
Lovely to hear the lad say words and that.
A great ‘cast. More of the AW’ers please
Kaisfatdad says
There seem to be great enthusiasm for Locust podcast. So how about this, @Locust? We can do a Stockholm special.
DuCool speaks Swedish, PizonBros speaks French, you speak English and I sit in a corner with a bottle of Explorer and grunt in Finnish. It has just got to work!
Locust says
Perkele!
“The day after the Stockholm podcast was posted on the Afterword, the Swedish contingent discovered that all of their passwords to the blog had mysteriously stopped working…it was a full and final Brexit, and they never saw it coming…”
😀
Kaisfatdad says
Perkele indeed!
Come on, Lo! Let’s get it sorted! It will be fun.
Well. a lot more fun than Brexshit.
Declan says
Always a pleasure to hear the voice behind the name. What a gent that Pencilsqueezer is.
