Something which might involve him telling stories about his life in music? I wouldn’t be at all surprised. I find the ‘Broooce’ persona rather wearisome, but I like some of his songs and will try to catch this. I suspect I will like the reflective Bruce who writes the songs more than the stage one who plays them.
If that @dogfacedboy chap ever edits that last podcast my own complicated feelings about Brucey will be probably better expressed than I can muster here…
I know… Much as I love high quality audio kit, I hate home IT (too close to my paid employment). It had been so long since I’d turned on my laptop that it spent 24 hours installing Windows updates, leaving me the first 5 mins of the ‘cast recording trying to find a pair of headphones which didn’t mute the mic.
As any cub scout will tell you, the secret of success is preparation. I have a selection of mics and an Avid soundcard to plug in – before – next time.
Of course he is promoting his autobiography and I am sure that the interview will be revealing as his interviews nearly always are. I’m guessing his luxury could be a guitar, book will be some sort of history of America, and I could probably have a pretty good stab at his 8 records.
It’s well worth a read – wasn’t going to bother getting it, but actually it’s far better than I expected, especially the early years and his relationship with his father, and his own battle with depression in his later years.

I’m looking forward to spending the day in an alcohol fuelled haze by playing along with the Bruce Springsteen “In some fashion” interview drinking game..
Bruce will be letting his fans down, his family down, but most of all he’ll be letting himself down if he doesn’t play something by the man who invented blue-collar* rock, DONOVAN.
*that’s blue collar with a nice paisley border with a hint of patchouli
Check out the way Rolling Stone’s website can’t bring itself to come right out and say there’s a long running BBC radio show, a British institution in fact, titled Desert Island Discs
Instead they skirt around the issue with vague stuff like “Bruce Springsteen revealed his eight “desert island” song choices” as if this is a miraculous one-off event, just for Bruce.
Not until the very end of the article do we find a link to the actual show.
Just caught up with this on the BBC Radio iPlayer, whilst lying in a hot bath. What better way to end Christmas Day?
But the reason why I am writing on this dead thread is to point out that the version the iPlayer is one hour long. In other words, there is an extra 15 minutes of conversation, and given that the usual 45 minutes also includes all the music, it probably almost doubles the speech bit. And he is very open about his upbringing and mental health. Bruce not Brooooce. If you only heard the live transmission you might want to check it out.

It’s sonically troubling but will wrestle with it this weekend

Man, was I shouting that much? Sorry…
DogFacedBoy says
Nah its got echo all over it. It’s like a Lee Perry production.
Plus obvs I was in Ireland this weekend visiting all the U2 haunts

Hopefully, like an out-of-tune singer, the reverb will mask all the cobblers I came out with.
In future, I will get a decent microphone connected – in advance – rather than using my son’s gaming headset.

certain degree of irony there Steve

We should run a book on it – have a little wager so to speak. I’m not really a fan and haven’t read the autobiography but I’m going for :
Like a Rolling Stone
Viva Las Vegas
I want to hold your hand.
…. he’s of that particular vintage.
Johnny Concheroo says
There’ll be a Roy Orbison song there too. Blue Bayou or Pretty Woman possibly
Wayfarer says
I think he’s more likely to go for a Chuck Berry song. Sweet Little Sixteen, possibly.
Kid Dynamite says
Reckon there’ll be a Woody Guthrie in there as well

Or maybe something by Pete Seeger?

The Ronettes?

I’ve been pondering a Nights In re his autobiography: it really is a wonderful thing and I would never consider myself a Brucehead.

@Lodestone_of_Wrongness
Thanks for the prompt and please do a ‘Nights In’ – you pushed me over the edge to buy it (I’m not a Brucehead either).

I am guessing maybe a Creedence song too – born on the Bayou or Fortunate son maybe?

I only discovered this lovely song recently. S’gotta be the least ‘Bruce Springsteen’ song in his cannon.
Bet he doesn’t play any Jedward. The snob.

I think he may pick something from the Detroit Medley of old that he used to end gigs with – possibly Raise Your Hand.

Rank outsider: he will choose some Gary U.S. Bonds. Betcha.

I also predict a mid-period Stones song, like Get Off Of My Cloud. And when I say “mid-period” I mean 1965/66, obvs.

Bruce is quite an authority on Bronski Beat – interestingly, he preferred the Jon Jon years.

The only Donovan song I can imagine Broos playing is Catch the Wind either stripped down acoustic like the original or beefed up anthem.
