Agree with The 1975. 80s kid here too and although I have no idea what these young people are going on about, they do have an 80s vibe.
See also Everything Everything and Metronomy (but not the latest […]

From Alain Dougnac:
Episode 1 provides an interesting illustration of the T/V (tu/vous) distinction in French-spoken social interactions.
During Rayan’s interview, Gilou and Rayan’s lawyer fence over the use […]

Nice on the use of slang:
Also on Graun comments the other day was a nice bit about the translation of the interrogation scene with Gilou and the 15 year old- hinged in the tu/vous distinction which is obviously […]

Aw, thank you, too kind!
I thought bringing up children would get easier, but it’s actually getting harder. It’s not really time that’s the issue but I’m finding that the emotional input needed increas […]

Yeah the non-fiction are a bit….pop sci which is a condescending thing to say, but they ‘re not even particularly striking pop sci (apart from ‘Thinking Fast and Slow’).
I think ‘100 books worth your time’ is […]

Really odd list; why put non-fiction and fiction together?
I’ve read 30 and own 20 or so more; and I can’t say I was hugesly inspired by any of them. And Sally Rooney is placed absurdly high.
Good to see Rachel […]

You should chat to him. He’s just told me he filed a patent that hinged on the definition of a cable. 🙂
I don’t think it’s published yet so he can’t tell me any more details. Sadly.
