July 20, 1969, the Apollo 11 moon landing.
In grainy black and white we watched it on TV. I was back at my parents house for the week of my 19th birthday and my girlfriend and I stayed up to watch the moon […]

At the same record fair I heard a guy pull out the first Arlo Guthrie LP and ask the seller “what’s SHE sound like, mate?”

I was at a record fair recently and pulled out a copy of Fleetwood Mac’s Pious Bird of Good Omen, the Blue Horizon compilation circa 1969. The young bloke next to me said “I looked at that one but couldn’t see […]

Well, you were more correct than me. I remembered it was a man’s voice and somehow made the (incorrect) leap to the Airplane.
But Jeffrey Shurtleff? There’s a great Woodstock quiz question, right there.

Not quite, it was Jeffrey Shurtleff in the introduction to Drugstore Truck Driving Man which he sang as a duet with Joan Baez at Woodstock. It’s all coming back to me now.

Actually there appears to be a lot of women marching today.
No march against FGM. No march against child brides, burkas, polygamy or even ISIS.
But a march against a democratically elected president.

I went to the record shop and I said: ’What have you got by The Doors?’
He said: ’A bucket of sand and a fire blanket!’

I hope this Wayne McGregor fellow didn’t follow up The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face with “My next choice is a Pogues cover of the Dubliners song Dirty Old Town”

Nothing I should be too concerned about, then?

Actually, I’ve just woken up from two years in a coma. Has anything interesting happened recently? No made-up stuff please.

They would have been modern day Robin Hoods if they hadn’t used that cosh on the driver!
Newspapers have come a long way since then. The layout looks positively archaic

8 August 1963, I was on holiday with my mum and dad in Cornwall. It was probably the last time I went on a family holiday. I was 13 and already feeling like we were living in separate worlds.
Anyway, we drove to […]

Lightweight! I had a vasectomy at 8.30 in the morning (just me and the doctor) and I was at work by 10. A bit sore and sitting down very gingerly but otherwise none the worse for the experience.
Back to the […]

That was Fluff’s signature tune on Pick Of The Pops, wasn’t it?
Some great Swinging London footage here, including the first Biba store opened in 1964 in Kensington Church Street.

Very good. I wonder who that bloke was? He must be great, that’s all I can say.
Yes it was the second Buffalo Springfield album which carried a host of “thank you” credits on the back, including Hank, Bert, […]

It’s quite late (April 1966) but I found this in the Daily Telegraph. Seems like it’s quoting from the Time magazine article.

“Swinging lovers” took on a whole different meaning in later years, of course. Especially in Germany.

Johnny Concheroo commented on the post, "It's better live" was a meme for me and a mate in the 1980/90s. What are the live versions of tracks that knock the socks off the studio version? 8 years ago
Finally found 10 mins to listen to this. I loved it!
It’s quite extraordinary hearing Clapton playing blues guitar with a huge orchestra. The intro seems to be the coda from Layla with Crossroads starting at […]
