Let me add my appreciation here too. Chapman and Whitney were proved foolish in disposing of the services of Nicko and bassist Jon Plotel. A terrific live band lost their spark.

This is a conflict where I don’t think there are any good outcomes for the people of Syria. HTS now say they are no longer the extremists of yesteryear. As did the Taliban before they took over Afghanistan, […]

Carl commented on the post, Laura Nyro – Hear My Song: The Collection 1966-1995 1 week, 1 day ago
There was an interesting reworking of songs from Laura’s catalogue co-ordinated by jazz pianist/arranger Billy Childs, which was released ten tears ago. It’s titled Map To The Treasure. It features a range of […]

Carl commented on the post, List Your Last Five Gigs, Please… 1 week, 2 days ago
Is this a closed thread or can it be updated? I went to see Lydia Luce and Andrea Von Kampen last night, pushing Julian Taylor out of my last five. A lovely evening with two very talented but sadly, […]

Yes, once again it was an all female band with Michele on bass and the magnificent Raevennan Husbandes on guitar. I have forgotten the drummer’s name.

Carl commented on the post, How many of the Massive have you met? 3 weeks ago
It was me who arrived first. I also left earlier than I would have liked as I had a stinking cold. The missing chap is Rosbif (who was using a different name at the time, but for personal reasons changed […]

I’m amazed that you write that the audience was quiet and attentive. I have stopped going to gigs at The Roundhouse because I’ve found them to be anything but. It sounds like it’s my loss.

Who is this band Pintangle of whom the presenter speaks? As a supplementary question, who is he?

I too think My Nation Underground is a fine album although as others have noted JC doesn’t. He on the other hand thinks Queen Elizabethis a thing of consummate beauty.

Carl commented on the post, Julian Cope – Friar Tuck 1 month, 2 weeks ago
Will I, won’t I? I used to be a massive Cope fan, buying every album, going to a gig on every tour. The gig at the Lyric Hammersmith, some 20 odd years ago was one of the best I’ve ever been to by any art […]

With respect to Crosby’s departure from The Byrds, sitting in with Buffalo Springfield at Monterey was but a very minor aspect of the internal conflict. Crosby and McGuinn had been arguing over the song content o […]

I thought he was great, but I recall there was a lot of adult sneering at Ron Ely because he was regarded as being too skinny for Tarzan.

The Bank of England inflation calculator suggests that £3 in 1974 is worth £27:64 at today’s prices. That’s quite a variation.

That’s a revisionist account, if ever I read one. As NigelT says they paved the way for the Stones, to which I would add that I sincerely doubt that the Stones were thinking we don’t want any of that fame and for […]
