ELO were my Dad’s favourite band. I saw a tribute ELO band a couple of years ago. They were magnificent – the songs are about as good as pop music gets. On a par with Abba. Richard Tandy left a fine body of work.
I think ELO were dismissed at the time following so soon after The Beatles to whom they were always unfavourably compared. So much better than Oasis or any of the other imitators.
ELO managed to make pop music bigger. They struggled by probably being the opposite of punk (and having DLT like them). They were never cool were they?
When Oasis tried the same thing, they just made thier music overweight. Thats why the early Oasis stuff or the Noel and a guitar songs are the best things Oasis produced (and Wonderwall).
