He posted this AI generated video on his Truth channel. “Satire” his spokesperson said. If there’s still a world left in fifty years they’re going to be saying “he was US President ????”

Is there no end to this shit?
It’s the new normal. He has debased political discourse not only in the US but worldwide.
Who is Snopes? If it’s not headline news, I think that’s probably because Trump has done and said so many completely bizarre, juvenile and unstatesmanlike things that this is just another one. Prior to Trump could anyone have imagined a POTUS making a statement as childish as “Just look at Woke singer Taylor Swift… I can’t stand her (HATE!). She was booed out of the Super Bowl and became, NO LONGER HOT.”
Premier Fact Checker site https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/.
The President of The Free World posts a video (made by someone else) of him flying a plane, wearing a crown and dumping poo on the No Kings demonstrations – this ain’t “just another one”. Surely a line has been crossed?

There’s a nice, very apt comment under that video: “This is what happens when eric cartman is your pres”.
Not to mention demolishing part of the White House to build an expensive vanity project, of questionable taste, while government is shutdown.
He took umbrage at Jack White too and JW’s mention of the decor.

The first rapist POTUS what do you expect?
The first? Who might that be?
From the party who invited you to “fuck your feelings” to “now wash your hands.”
I am beyond naive in such matters and my knowledge of the workings of American politics superficial at best – but surely senior members of the Republican Party must be concerned at the long term damage this man is inflicting on the party, the body politic and the country? I’ve seen in the last few days JD Vance brushing off grisly chats from junior Republicans as essentially lads having harmless bantz and some one the other day defending Trump’s AI shit video as ‘satire’ but where is the sanity and reason in the Republicans now? Has the country’s constitution no provision for a president who is basically, at best, mad?
Imagine if Starmer went berserk and posted an AI video of himself shitting all over Palestine Action protestors or similar.
No, I don’t think senior Republicans care.
What they see is someone who is reshaping the political landscape to ensure the Republican Party will never be displaced from power.
And they are lapping it up.
Mike Johnson’s only response to any question about Trump is either that the Democrats are much worse, or left violence is much worse than right violence.
The hypocrisy, insanity and unreason are off the scale. Thank god for the voices of sanity like The Atlantic and that woman with three names that I can’t remember who posts on Facebook.
Admittedly I am only watching from across the pond via Stephen Colbert, Seth Myers, John Oliver, and occasionally CNN, but it seems to me that the Republicans are now completely beholden to the orange hobgoblin and his cabal.
No matter what he does, says, or posts online, people who you might have expected (due to their position) to say “That’s going too far and is not what our party stands for” instead trot out ridiculous things like “It’s satire, get over it” or “That’s not what he meant”, as if the supposed leader of the free world needs some sort of interpreter so us thickos can understand his great intellect.
Surely there must be meetings behind closed doors where senior Reps, well away from prying eyes, are saying, “What the hell are we going to do about him?”
Maybe they think he’s going to be Pres forever – I am sure he wants to – and so they won’t have to pick up the remnants of democracy once he’s gone. Or maybe they think the Dems have given up the ghost, and so DJT and his policies are completely free of opposition or resistance and there’s no need for them to worry.
I know there’s an amendment (25th?) that says he can be forced out, but who would dare suggest such a thing, given the army of lickspittles he seems to command – let alone the actual army and Justice Department, which he is using as his personal attack dogs against people and cities who have criticised him?
Clearly he is the worst President in history, but until people with real authority start finding some backbone, he’ll just carry on doing whatever he wants.
@CaptainDarling. That was pretty much my point. It is staggering that he can more or less rampage unchecked, with no pushback or censure.
And we see leaders around the western world looking at him and thinking – hang on. Why can’t we do that? And that is terrifying. Not only the likes of Farage etc in the UK but in Germany where Chancellor Merz is now openly calling for mass deportations of migrants, no doubt excited by images of ICE in the States.
When you’ve had wealth and privilege from the moment of your birth, have never been obliged to understand how lucky you are and how unlucky so many others are, and have never had to suffer any of the trials and setbacks that most people encounter in their lives, it must be difficult to understand how easily you can make yourself look like an ignorant schmuck to everyone outside your own circle of sycophancy.
I don’t care about this video.
It’s crass and asinine, but what’s new. He does this stuff, everyone reacts and then there’s just that little bit less focus, that little bit less outrage, when he does something that actually matters. You’ll barely even remember the video in a month’s time, it’ll just blend into all the other outrage porn he churns out.
Follow the money and the Epstein files. Ignore all this bollocks – he knows precisely what he’s doing with it.
Orangey grows more and more like a flesh and blood but far more malevolent version of The Joker every day.
He and his tiny hands will go down in history as having successfully carried off the greatest con trick of all time
I’m not saying this video is in any way the worst of Trump – he’s doing so much more harm in other areas. I was just appalled that it didn’t make many front pages or TV news headlines. Guess that’s just a symbol of how much shit he is throwing around …
Well yes thats it,. The constant stream of putrid comms from the White House (see press secretary Leavitt brushing off a query from a journalist the other day with “your mom”) demonstrates the level of arrogance and invulnerability the Trump administration presently feels. And yet it all feels surreal – we all know about the dirty money, the Trump family’s crypto investments, the blatant hijacking of the legal system, the ICE gestapo, the Epstein files – what is, or can be, being done? All I see is cancelled late night talk show hosts endlessly taking the piss or Gavin Newsome putting out the occasional clever spoof tweet.
The Americans are just a year off the mid-terms, which will be an opportunity to meaningfully push back against the current administration, so there’s plenty to be done.
Focusing on shiny objects like this video won’t get them anywhere though – they tried a vibes and memes approach last time and we all saw what happened there. If they’re serious about curbing Trump’s power they need to stay focused on the issues that actually matter to voters.
Trump’s poll numbers are currently underwater on his handling of the economy. The lowest they’ve been while in office. That’s an issue that will get plenty of traction with the electorate, whereas all this other shit – the AI videos, the coarseness, the erosion of standards – is already long since priced in.
Why didn’t this news story make front pages? Because everyone knows Trump is obnoxious and dislikes the half of the electorate who don’t vote for him. It’s not really news and accordingly no one will remember it on election day. It’s internet chip wrapper, just like the Newsom tweets and late night host monologues. The route out of this nightmare is not through force of zingers.
I can’t help feeling that the Democrats would benefit from having an even slightly visible and likeable leader. Do they even have a leader at the moment?
That seems to be Newsome.
I reckon this is why Springsteen is clearing out his cupboards.
So Trump’s handlers have a year to get him to declare a state of emergency, a handy pretext to canceling the midterms and installing the theocratic oligarchy?
Oh my God, I’ve turned into FauxGeordie 😉
I told you so!
I think more of concern is Trump sending in the army into major US cities (with democratic governors) where he believes (or says he believes) law and order has broken down, even if the crime rate has actually gone down recently in those places
This is objectively true, but as a symbol of the way Trump now believes he can do anything he likes without reference to the law – or indeed what the majority of the population might want – demolishing the East Wing can’t be bettered. Particularly after trashing the rose garden and dumping Mar-o-Lago DC in its place. This is Ceausescu-level disdain.
Especially when the government is shut down (a concept I can’t get my head around – I’m almost certain it could never happen in the UK) and some/all federal workers are either furloughed or working without pay. Is their supposed chief doing anything to help them by bringing both dides to the table? No, he’s demolishing a historic structure for an unnecessary ballroom, of all things.
Why aren’t more Americans outraged? Or are they just numb to it all by now?
The Republicans go along with it because, behind all of the batshit craziness, he’s doing what they and their billionaire backers have wanted for a long time. Oligarchy without any limits.
Trump’s an old man who will be dead before very long. Assuming he’s not stopped soon by a second American revolution, and starts to actually become a nuisance to the party, they’ll maybe hurry the process along a bit. A fatal stroke or a heart attack would work.
Then it’ll be the serious players at the controls.
All of Trump’s incompetent sycophants will be purged. No more loonytunes but goodbye American democracy for the forseeable future.
Supreme Court thinking about rolling back a section 2 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 could be a game changer for the Democrats, who could lose a dozen seats. That, to me, is far more worrying and going under the radar as The Great Pumpkin does another look-over-there.
I watch YouTube clips from MSNBC, Colbert, Seth Meyer, Jimmy Kimmel, Really American and a few more regularly. Have done for years. Their shock and outrage has been constant for the past decade. Yet he rolls on and on turning everything he touches to shit.
The No Kings protest looked strong and healthy but it will change nothing fundamentally. The Democrat party has decided to mute itself, apart from mauling Republicans at various congressional hearings. Even then both parties just walk away at the gavel with no accountability meted. It’s all just shouting into a void and realising that the checks and balances made to deter a man like Trump with a cabal at his heels only play lip service.
Nothing will stop him. That includes the Epstein files and the alleged possible behaviour. Whatever they may contain about him I don’t think it’ll do the actual trick of seeing him marched out of office. Though he is terrified his pustulence grips everything too strongly.
As said by others, we wait for a natural death to end him, if not the damage done. Well done to the millions that couldn’t be arsed to vote and the 40000 or so that pushed him over the line.
A couple of friends recently went to Chicago and Tresco on the Isles of Scilly, respectively… I envied the latter, but would have to be paid a considerable amount of wedge (£50,000 might secure it) in 2025 to do the former.
That’s the beauty of Tresco – every little helps.
‘Dictator-for-life vibes…’ 😏
Good article in the Grauniad.
