956 was ab bustard. I was a 5 but a mate failed to solve id and lost a massively long streak! My streak is nothing great as I forgot to do it one day 🙁
I’ve had a bit of a dodgy off season, I have to say. Three fives and a six since we were last at the tee. I’m hoping a good night’s sleep will reverse the streak in time to hit the First with renewed vigour in the morning. But it gets harder with each passing tournament to dig deep enough to find the desire to compete when you know Baron Ray’s going to rock up tomorrow and card a deuce on day one.
Dearest chiz, any score I entered was as genuine as any other entrant apart from you. You who was the only entrant to register an albatross and not even that wine soaked idiot in France even made one of his snide comments when you did. I found to hat very telling.
I will not be entertaining a deuce on day one because I am stuck after line two however I am hopeful of a three.
Last time I crack a joke (which I thought was very witty) – congrats on your eagle.
ps isn’t using three vowels in your starter something we call “cheating”?
And presumably this dedicated follower of fashion, whoever he or she might be, enjoys it?
A wedgie and a grope. It’s not how I like to start each day, I prefer a bowl of Bran Flakes and a little stroll, but far be it for me to judge.
I’m thinking what with you,@Gary, being an Italian peasant and all, you are struggling with the Wordle/Golf comparisons? Let me elucidate….
Players, who shall remain nameless (let’s call two of them @Chiz and @Leedsboy), think both golf & wordle(and most probably life) is one big competition. They stand on the tee and take out their biggest and bestest clubs (pause for Moose to comment). Every hole, they drive 400 yards to the edge of the green, chip to within three inches of the hole and tap in (pause for Moose to comment). Oh look, another birdie….
Other players, free spirits if you will, take the opposite approach. A wedge (not a wedgie, you fool) is produced and the first shot is shanked eighty yards into a gorse bush. After much huffing and puffing (and much merriment) the green is finally attained. Unfortunately the putter has been left at home. Ah well, better luck next hole (pause for Moose to comment).
Of course there isn’t. There’s a disturbing beetrootist faction making itself felt. They should try my beetroot (freshly cooked, not pickled), goat’s cheese, walnuts and rocket salad with a subtle balsamic dressing. Food of the gods. (I say ‘my’, but I had it in Italy years ago and it wasn’t hard to remember the recipe.)
Very, very quick par. They call me “Blizzard” Black Celebration at the clubhouse due to how quickly I can get around the course. It’s either that or the dandruff.
I remember when you first cycled up to the course, a callow but excitedly innocent youth, happy to be in the company of the hackers and duffers who can but dream of the leaderboard.
Now look at you – you drive up in your Maserati, acknowledge the presence of your old friends with a curt nod, whip out your fancy driver and that’s the last we see of you until the Winners’ Ceremony.

This is the one of those that feels like you’re in a canoe in a raging torrent heading for a massive waterfall, and there’s nothing you can do except stir the water now and then with your stupid little paddle, hoping that might help.
Paul Hewston. 30, -6

Shot 2 was a glorious long-range backspin overshot with a 3 iron, landing on the very edge of the green but then changing direction with the backspin, beetling back to the direction of the hole. Just stopped short.
I have no idea what’s going on – same method, random starter, thinking kept to minimum ( a metaphor for my life) yet this round is (at least to me) a thing of wonder. No doubt things will start going Wrong soon.

Wordle 971 3/6*
Heads up: I’m off to the Smoke on grandpa duty this morning and won’t be reunited with my trusty spreadsheet until Sunday evening. So I’m afraid there’ll be a bit of a wait for the final result.
Seems half of the players on here start with the same two letters each day. Serves em right, should do what I do then you won’t score a double bogey …oh, may need some rethinking on that one
@mikethep you are right. Not sure how that happened. Don’t know how to retrieve it but if I can’t am happy for you to mark it as a bogey which is the worst score I have had this month so wouldn’t have been 6 or a scratch.
@stevet Based on the average of your scores in the second half I’d be inclined to make it a par, but if you consult WordlBot/Compare and view your recent scores and then swipe right you’ll be able to see the actual result.
As we wait for the final scores, I’d just like to commend everyone for keeping things nice. I found the tournaments which turned into bickerfests and flounceramas a bit of a bore.
OK, here are the results (provisional). I’ve awarded SteveT 5 for the missing round as he suggests, but if he finds his actual result and it’s different I dare say he’ll let us know. I awarded Steve W 7 for his busted round. So:
Leedsboy, SteveT 64, -8
Paul Hewston 66, -6
Lodes 68, -4
Mikethep, Steve Walsh 69, -3
Black Celebration 70, -2
Plum1909 71, -1
Chiz, Max the Dog, Cheshire Cat par
Jim 78, +6
Some surprising results there, I think you’ll agree. Just goes to show etc…
Are you in that video, Lodes? I bet you are. Is that you in the pink jumper? I bet it is. You’re exactly how I’ve always imagined you, only in a pink jumper.
Come to the Friday nights July in Pouzolles. Watch 300 merry, tipsy but seldom drunk, villagers line-dancing. Marvel at their skill and marvel at the Scotsman saying “Why is everyone facing the wrong way?”
I am confused as the Wordle bot thing will not let me copy/paste.
If Fridays word was the one ending OT then I scored a four.
If it was the word ending SH it was actually a two.
Either way I have technically won although am happy to concede to @Leedsboy as he didnt spoil his card.
Shurely we should have had a shoot-out between @Leedsboy and @SteveT?? Maybe which one has the best score on Wednesday’s hole? This game is all about winning not the taking part shurely?
Random vid full of candy apple red goodness.

Just wondering what your starter word was. …. alied as in “I told an untruth”??
Along with a large proportion of the Wordle fraternity, it was ALIEN, which left only two likely alternatives, and I picked the right one.
Last time I crack a joke (which I thought was very witty) – congrats on your eagle.
ps isn’t using three vowels in your starter something we call “cheating”?
I realised it was a joke about 10 mins later. Like all your other funnies.
A three- vowel starter is kind of like playing a wood off the tee rather than an iron. Why wouldn’t you?
Ouch!
Absolutely fair play to you re 3 vowel starter. Me myself likes to start with a wedge and take it from there….
You like to start every day with a wedgie? Does Mrs Lodestone do the honours? Do you not fear there might be long term consequences?
…but at least he feels a dedicated follower of fashion.
And presumably this dedicated follower of fashion, whoever he or she might be, enjoys it?

Seconded. The fact that most players were permanently sunk in gloom probably helped.
I was tempted to disagree just for the irony fun but, your point is a very good one.
Just sayin’, the nicest friendliest tournament and one (some say “two”) player missing in action?
Holds breath…
Couldn’t agree more. This was the best tournament I’ve taken part in. Thank you everyone, but especially @mikethep
OK, here are the results (provisional). I’ve awarded SteveT 5 for the missing round as he suggests, but if he finds his actual result and it’s different I dare say he’ll let us know. I awarded Steve W 7 for his busted round. So:
Leedsboy, SteveT 64, -8
Paul Hewston 66, -6
Lodes 68, -4
Mikethep, Steve Walsh 69, -3
Black Celebration 70, -2
Plum1909 71, -1
Chiz, Max the Dog, Cheshire Cat par
Jim 78, +6
Some surprising results there, I think you’ll agree. Just goes to show etc…
They’ll be dancing in the streets of Pouzolles tonight
More like this
Sausage-waving too! I am impress.
Are you in that video, Lodes? I bet you are. Is that you in the pink jumper? I bet it is. You’re exactly how I’ve always imagined you, only in a pink jumper.
That’s me losing my religion
No no no. If we are talking about partying in France ….
@stevet the answer was STASH. So…
That’s about where I normally land.
Congrats to Leedsboy and Steve T !
And many thanks to @mikethep.
Yes many thanks @mikethep and hearty congratulations to Steve T and Leedsboy.
Same here…
Shurely we should have had a shoot-out between @Leedsboy and @SteveT?? Maybe which one has the best score on Wednesday’s hole? This game is all about winning not the taking part shurely?
See above…
6 over par.
6 off the field.
14, no 15 off the winner!!
What the hell just happened? I came third once!
It was all quite strange. You’ll wallop us all next time, I’m sure.
I finished last by a mile last time and came a worthy second this. It’s a funny old game…..
I’m happy to take a joint first again. Congrats to @SteveT – I’m glad the play off hole wasn’t needed – I crashed and burned on the 19th.
See you all next month…
