A great enhancement to the site goes live tonight! A much requested change is that the “New” indictor is based on when you last looked at a thread regardless of the device (as opposed to now, where it is based on the specific device). From tonight, posts will only be flagged as New once, and won’t appear as New again if you move from one device to another. A superb bit of work by Rich especially as we negotiate the numerous (and long) year end threads. Also there’s a new “New” indicator which now in red on the post which itself is presented in a fetching blue box. A huge round of applause is due for the mod/dev team I think.

Well done, Richmeister! I only use one PC and no gadgets, so I don’t care, personally, but saying well done allows me to say – in the spirit of last week’s The Apprentice winner – that the solution is “Ridiculously Rich”. 🙂
Is there any way to just go to New posts without scrolling through all the posts?
*looks again at “Teach Yourself HTML”*
Nope.
Glad someone else has read, and understood, it.
Top work, team.
Good news. I’m so pleased I clicked both of the thumbs up buttons.
@gatz .. the double ‘thumbs up’ problem should be better now 🙂
Hi – apologies if this is common place and I’m being stupid – wouldn’t be the first time! Is there a way of being notified if somebody replies to something you have said within a thread. I sometimes miss replies from people, because I don’t always revisit a post that I have posted in, or I do revisit the post, but I’m not aware somebody has replied to me. Thanks.
Not quite, but the Track function tells you when someone has posted on a thread you originated, and also when someone has commented on a thread you commented on.
A “Go to first unread” option on each thread would be great, but it’s probably a real PITA to set up.
Why would we need Chrissie Hynde and her anti fur friends to set up the feature ?
They would be PETA…
Lol-ing here, thanks Chrisf.
Ah, I see. I thought the notifications function, with the title number next to my name at Hi Native, was meant to be showing when people replied and I just had it set incorrectly, but clearly not.
Yay!
Huzzah!

Brilliant!!
But pales into insignificance compared to Rich’s triumph!!!
Is it just me that wants to put two dots on the base of the W?
How childish.
But then the W wouldn’t look a bit like a bum.
You poivoits all look like bums, I tells yer!
This site really is far better technical-ease-of-use than we deserve!
That will be very convenient for me. Thanks!
I have released this change now for everyone… to add to Twang’s OP – the changed method only applies if you’ve logged in — if not then it will revert back to the old way of doing things 🙂
Having a link to first new comment sounds useful – I will add that request to my todo list..
Any problems with this — PM me @rich — Thx!
Glory be!
It’s all the brain food that does it.
Indeed Peter .. Art inspires the mind .. 🙂
Well I was ruminating upon the benefits of cod & chips but art certainly helps.
Great work – thanks!
Any chance we can get rid of the doubling of the thumbs up symbol that now appears on each OP?
And any thoughts on the ‘italics issue’ in Raymond’s item in ‘features’?
Thumbs in Dub? I like it! Or is it Andy Warhol?
@bargepole .. the double ‘thumbs up’ problem should be better now 🙂 I’ll take a look at the italics issue you’ve mentioned .. cheers
@rich – sorting it in the early hours of Christmas morning surely goes above and beyond the call of duty 🙂
Great work Rich. It really does look very natty. An invaluable addition to your modern lifestyle.
As regards your comment @native, one thing a replier can always do is use that @ thingy I just did now. That ensures that the person who they are replying too knows about the comment.
Not exactly what you were asking for, but it can very useful.
Further to KFD’s comment @Native, have you used track function which will show you the latest comments on threads you have started and there is a separate search for threads you have commented on.
Need to be logged on though.
I’m feeling suddenly blue. But only until the page is refreshed 😀
I appear new’d.
You spelt ‘lewd’ wrong.
Ohh! A bluey starring minibreakfast – Santa’s been!
Splendid stuff. This will make it far easier to skive at my computer at work!
Good work Poindexter.
I’d like to suggest a proper search function as well. As things stand it’s impossible to search the blog for anything. People do put tags at the bottom of the original posts at the start of each thread, it’s true, but they only work for the first post and 9 times out of 10 the tags are piss-taking “witty” comments anyway which don’t work as a search aid at all.
Great work – thanks Rich. Can I humbly suggest that yellow is a better colour for ‘New’ contributions – jumps out when scrolling down epic threads to find the alleged new comment.
5 star!
As someone who jumps between five different devices*****, this is great News!
Thank you for your hard work and congratulations on making it work.

***** I know, I’m a System Addict, I never can get enough.
This is indeed an heraldic moment.
Great work thank you.
It would be awesome if one could make the “New” alert appear as text, so that one could do a search on it…
All I can say is thank you. I know it’s a faff to do this stuff for you Mods, and I’m very grateful.
Great job – looks brilliant! Thank you
*applauds* you’ve all done very well!
