I went to see if I could find something about both of yous from Chat GPT and it came back with a generic response. So I made up a name and it gave a similar response. I asked if Burt Cokain and HP Saucecraft […]

I think Chat GPT must have a sideline in Daily Mail horoscopes – bland, uninformative, but moderately complimentary language designed to reinforce confirmation biases. Here’s a little more on those mysterious […]

Chat GPT did come up with some interesting guidelines for posting, which it admitted it made up itself: When posting to TheAfterword.co.uk, there are a few key factors to keep in mind to ensure your […]

That may be the case – an example of AI ‘hallucination’. I was curious to see how you did this, and asked ChatGPT for AW contributors. Among from a few well known names, there was also Jester, The Abbot, Sgt […]

In December, listening to many of the artists listed in the AW 2024 album polls took up a lot of my free time, and very interesting it was too. Apart from that. I managed to finish one book and start another. […]

Always happy to listen to a Boss Hogg track. This has to be my favourite – so good

They may be one of those bands who I dismiss for decades as being bland before giving them time for a proper listen and discovering how great they are – like I did with Prefab Sprout’s Steve McQueen ( but only […]

Yeah, there was an air of optimism and stadium crowd positivity about what is termed here ‘Big Music’. The Sisters were rather more twisted in their approach – thee snider approach to Pop, you might say.

I could never understand the fascination. They supported Throwing Muses on a tour in 1989 – seeing them at Portsmouth Poly, there was a massive crowd there just to see them, who left when Kristen and Tanya came […]

The best bits for me of the Creature Comforts clips were the incidental details, often in the background, often involving younger animals not quite behaving and often gently admonished by older siblings or […]

Forever Running is another album where all the songs are good. One of the second division bands who never made the big time, but made good music, See also Danse Society, The Wake.

Working from home alone today, I made up separate trays of aubergine, pumpkin, peppers and cocktail tomatoes, drizzled them all with oil, scattered them with pepper and salt, then left them in the oven at 140C for […]

Mick was the soul of The Clash – even in Carbon/Silicon he was doing good music. I would have LOVED to see BAD live. Complete magpies, taking the spirit of Sandinista as far as they could.

1985 was really a year when Goth hit the mainstream. I wanted to like this song, and the pounding rhythm, organ sound and great riffage impressed. But the singing was just a little bit too meh. Similar with this […]

Ellery Bop – Torn Apart. Championed by Janice Long, this was one of the first singles I bought, along with Pale Shelter and Right by Your Side. Just as good is the B-side – a Mad Professor remix

That whole first album was a complete joy from beginning to end, and The Bottom Line, Medicine Show and E=MC2 were wonderful cine-literate classics.

Looking at the track listing, I still know words to all of the songs. Typical of a lot of music at the time it was when pop music was a bit edgy and edgy music was a bit pop. Kind of how I like my music.
