Listening to the iPod on random the other day and a track from Maria Mckee’s 1996 album “Life Is Sweet” came up, prompting me to listen to the whole album.

I know she’s best know for the Show Me Heaven mega hit and writing FeargL Sharkey’s “A Good Heart”, but this really is a fantastic album.

I enjoyed the recent Grateful Dead “Fare Thee Well” concerts and see that some of them are going back out on the road with John Mayer.

I’ve heard about him, but I realised that I don’t have a single thing that he has done or know much about him. Given that the Dead are using him suggests that it would be something I would like…..

I love the Afghan Whigs; I love the fact their video is the sound guy. Who, quite clearly, loves this track. Put a smile on my face.

……I was reminded of them while trawling YouTube for a version of Quando Quando for the “Q” thread…..I saw them in Glasgow, performing the most bizarre version of “QQQQ” you might imagine….

Two of the fondest memories I have of my dad are two ridiculous running gags we constantly enacted so much so that my mum went beyond the tutting and shaking head stage to a point of totally ignoring us.

Without fail if we found ourselves walking towards an open door (from opposite directions) we would both make a point of demonstratively squeezing through the doorway at the same time with much pushing and shoving always resulting in my dads glasses becoming skew wiff in a Fred Scuttle/Eric Morecambe fashion.

And when dad came home of an evening it was always the same routine…

Dad ‘Anyone call for me?’ Me ‘Yeah, Bill Bailey’. Dad ‘What did he want?’ Me ‘He says he’s not coming home’.

Walking along a beach in Italy and “Dear God” by XTC comes up on the Ipod. Somehow in my mind I construct a tale in my head that this song killed their career in the States…lack of play in the Bible Belts etc. Might or might not be true but what else has struck down a band /artist in full flight?

Thanks to ALL who assisted me in my first “Rip” problem with Windows Media Player (WMP) much appreciated – I am now hoping you can come to my rescue again – Now the problem is after ripping my Classic Rock presents BLUES Mag. CDs to WMP library when I get to CD No. 20 it gets rejected saying “WMP cannot rip one or more tracks from CD” – HOW COME ??? – I have just ripped C/R Blues CDS No. 1 to No.19 OK – was also able to rip No’s 21 to 23 to WMP library OK. Any/ALL assistance appreciated – BUT please keep in mind K.I.S.S. on/for my behalf – as a struggling user of the new computer system.

When you don’t actually live in a place, you can’t really gauge what’s actually going on.

Here in NZ, Corbyn is being reported as a little-known, far left nutter who is gathering up momentum via rent-a-crowd to take the leadership of the Labour Party.

Corbyn has had some great publicity here due to Blair formally trashing him – his profile has been raised immeasurably by that. In his piece, Blair insults Michael Foot but changes the language to make it also appear that he is paying him respect. He is actually saying “this bloke is worse than Michael Foot!”.

I’m not sure what happened to Blair. He may have some history with Corbyn, who knows.

As Billy Bragg points out, Corbyn is as establishment as it gets. He’s been a North London MP for more than 30 years. It’s weird that he is being portrayed as a left wing chancer from nowhere who is trying to smash thie state. He knows the system, he is part of the system.

Just been reading through the comments on the Scottish politics thread & it got me thinking.

Before I go any further, can I apologise in advance if what I say comes over as naive/idealistic.

So, simply put, why cant councils build more houses? And as a slight aside, part of the recent Conservative manifesto was giving people living in housing association property the right to buy. I thought the property belonged to the housing association & was not the states to sell off.

As I say, apologies up front for my lack of smarts.
