Dumb question but does a radio with Bluetooth (such as makita site radios) mean I can play Spotify through it with my iPhone set on Bluetooth? Thx
You gotta hand it to Mossad
Utterly baffling to me but they’ve pulled off an incredible feat. Evidently (which means there’s no evidence except my mate Mike) mossad sent out disinformation that hezbollahs phones were compromised. So they did what anyone would do and ordered a job lot from Thailand which mossad then tampered with. But surely many pagers must be in a store so why hasn’t some warehouse blown sky high? And how did all the explosives get through customs? They’ve just killed their ambassador! And how does the supply chain work? Were they distributed in a day or so? Because given the number of devices surely some would have gone in for repair?
Oasis reunion
Tipped for a few dates inc Glasto next year. Whenever it happens (and it’s about as likely as rain in Manchester) but did you notice Liam played only Oasis songs at the Leeds festival? Plus Walrus but inc that classic Digsys Dinner. Bit unfortunate if you were expecting tunes from his solo oeuvre.
I’ve no interest I saw them enough back in the day and loved them live but it looks like there’s now enough money on the table.
Catch phrases of yore
Do you still use old catch phrases that clearly mean nothing to either the yoof or even the not so yoof?
My go to greeting is “Hi De Hi” which hasn’t graced our screens for 36 years and now just receives a blank look and I can’t resist adding “the rock steady crew” if anyone says “hey you”… a chart smash of 41 years ago.
My dad often said “I remember the day war broke out” while rubbing his face Rob Wilton style and both of them now outdate that.
Stonehenge
We all know that da ‘henge was built by druids hundreds of years before the dawn of history (for reasons unknown) but it’s now been established the crowning piece was from Scotland not Wales as once thought.
Built 5,124 years ago (according to wikipedia) I find it fascinating that they (you know, them) now believe the standing stones were from England, some smaller stuff was from Wales and the one stone parked on top of them all was from about 400 miles away in Scotland.
The navigation involved to get the stones and to know where they actually were when they chose them blows my mind. And the communication involved to get them and put them together over the years is fascinating.
Does it reflect their spheres of influence? Where you going? Scotland. Oooh, bring me back a piece of rock.
Olympic wordle
Time to par tee starting with 1139.
Medals to be won … and there will be drug testing (but bring your own).
Gap years
When I was 18 I’d never left England or been on a plane. But I had a hunger to see the world. My so called gap year (before the phrase had been turned) became a gap 3 years. 100 countries later and having lived in 10 of them I still have that hunger (or is it a thirst?). This autumn I’ll wave off number one son to uni … like all of his pals he is going straight from school and has no desire whatsoever to do any travelling first. Is this a trend? When I was a teen my idols were Attenborough and Wicker and my inspiration was dusty old history books about Egypt and India. Has the internet killed off the desire to see the world? I didn’t really know what was out there but now the internet tells you it all. Have kids lost their sense of adventure? I once stood outside my mums house in Surrey with a board saying Morocco … and ten days later I was there.
RIP Bob Newhart
One of my dads favourites, this sketch is a classic.
Beach Boys do 99 Problems
Well as they say in Bristol … it made I laff …
Bob bans phones
No mobile phones to be allowed at upcoming Bob Dylan gigs. Evidently you put them in an ‘automatic pouch’ … not sure if you have to buy them/rent them. Also not sure if this is to persuade people to enjoy the moment or something about copyrights. Seems a great idea to me.
But is it a British thing? I’ve only been to a couple of indoor US gigs in recent years and I don’t recall seeing anyone filming the gig.
Say it ain’t so Joe
Make or break time for Biden at the NATO conference and he opens up by introducing President Zelensky as President Putin. Could it have started any worse?
Glastonbury
Either there or on the box … what you watching? Any good? I’m currently watching Squid who are rather good.
Macca back
Manchester and London
Gig app
My sons off to uni and has started going to a lot of gigs. Can anyone recommend an app to record who what when etc perhaps with photos and play lists that kind of thing?
TIA
Confessions of a teenage fraudster
Fascinating series I’ve just binge watched it. Highly recommended.

I’ve just sold my house
As usual the solicitor says it’s going to take three months! I have a file full of all the search malarky and other documents from when I bought it two years ago and he is going to do it all over again. I was told once there is no reason why it shouldn’t take six weeks. Money for old rope I say.
Fantasy Premier League
What a long strange trip that was! The maddest season since I started playing. Well done everyone, see you all for pre season training.
WE START TODAY BAAAAAABY (fire emoji)
Thus read the message from number one son in the wee small hours.
Best of luck to all your kids and (dare I say) grand kids starting their A levels today. I hope they are as confident as my little rascal.
Villa 3 Liverpool 3
Villa salvage a draw with two late goals. But wait … and I find this more extraordinary than perhaps it is … Elliott assisting Qansah was the first time two English players under 21 (that’s English not England players) have combined for a Premier league goal … for 23 years.
1968 Olympics
I’ve just been watching the 1968 Official Olympics film and it was quite an eye opener in many ways.
I don’t remember the 1966 world cup but I do vaguely remember some of the 68 olympics, the first south American games and it was held in Mexico. I can remember as a boy going to see World Cups and Olympics at the cinema, unlike home it was all in colour.
For me it’s probably the greatest olympics ever. Some records were totally smashed and some by todays standards seem very pedestrian (the marathon winning time was 2 hours 20 minutes). On the field the greatest achievement of this or any other games was probably Bob Beamons long jump. He never seemed as if he was going to land. He beat the world record by over half a metre and jumped so far it was beyond the measuring device. His record stood for another 23 years!
Ironically for an event that came together in ‘peace and unity’ it was ‘off’ the field that saw the most iconic image, perhaps the most iconic image in sport. Tommie Smith and John Carlos won gold and bronze in the 200m and wore black leather » Continue Reading.
Word in your ear
Do you think Mark ever gets pissed off when David answers his opinions with ‘yeah maybe’ or ‘possibly’?
Stone Roses – 35 Years ago today
When I curate and reshuffle my 100 best albums … on a far too regular basis – this album is always top 3 if not 1. Maybe it should be Top 100 Most Enjoyable albums because the sheer joy I get every time I hear this is immeasurable.
I appreciate Pet Sounds, Revolver and Exile but this album and the thought that in the previous 12 months the band were on the crest of such an incredible creative wave only adds to the appreciation. For sheer enjoyment I’d pick Leftism, Screamadelica, House of Love or Beyond the Ultraworld any day of the week. When it comes to Killer No Filler you only have to take out Elizabeth to be left with an album of 100% killer.
Eurovision 74
After it got a mention on WIYE I dug this out and its a pearler.
All the women are wearing dresses that would cause a major fire if they stood near a radiator and David Vines commentary is just awful.
Personal favourites? Spain – Just all of it. The days before radio mics. Switzerland – “You wouldn’t think by looking at that face she used to work in construction”. Yugoslavia – With their entry The Generation of ’42 (“But don’t be put off by the title, they sang it in English and it’s a very humorous song). ABBA – David Vine helpfully explains the bands name comes from their initials. He somehow adds a 5th member and it ends up something like ABFAB.
But top of the pile is Dame Katie of Boyle introducing in French … “Madame et monsieurs, les Wombles” big Dave speculates how to say The Wombles in Korean. WTF?

The Ballad of Johnny Longstaff
The story of my mates Grandad, from Stockton on Tees to the Spanish Civil War via the mass trespass and Cable street as told by the Young Guns. The Guardian described it as extraordinary and it is.
Kiss
As good as Bob Dylan, better than Bowie. But not as good as Michael Jackson.
Didn’t Blondie cash in for $30m? That sounds a steel.
