It is indeed a very fucked up world. It’s not a time for favourites more a time for rebellion or solidarity whichever floats your boat. May I add this –
Sorry @Lodestone. I shouldn’t have dismissed your best intentions but as you can probably tell the news made me feel frustrated and somewhat angry. Still does.
Nae probs, not offended in the slightest. I guess I was just trying to make the point that being an old man who gets increasingly fucked up about what’s happening right now, the only answer I personally have is to listen to favourite records (aka burying head in sand)
Good film. Very brave man. I think, though, he underestimated what a thug and gangster Putin actually is. In the last scene he says “If they decide to kill me, it means that we are incredibly strong.” (We = the anti-Putin movement.) Will they be strong without him, I wonder?
You disagreed with the the USSR – you get sent to a gulag, never to be heard of again
You disagree with Putin – you are pretty much publicly executed to encourage the others. Then issue a hilarious comedy Salisbury Cathedral version of how he died to show your sniggering contempt for the truth.

Nothing left to do but put on your favourite record and try to forget what a fu**ed-up world we live in

Given the conditions of his incarceration, it’s not a great surprise, but it’s genuinely upsetting news.

Hope the BBC dig out and run the 2022 documentary that bears BN’s name.
Unimaginably brave man with a wonderfully black sense of humour.
The telephone call to one of the KGB officers on his case is priceless

The BBC ran this last night. That phone call was breathtaking. A brave man, his family too. A very sad outcome both for him and the world.

Heartbreaking news.
Hopefully the Russian people will begin to realise that their leader is a tyrant.
I’m not optimistic.
