possibly the most misguided album in history…

Oh gosh, I only heard about this album a couple of years ago. You could pick anything from it for this thread and it would win.

I’m not sure I have posted this on the correct thread…

Eric Burdon & War’s version of “Nights In White Satin” from “The Black Man’s Burdon” was a shocker. Trampled with size 13 hobnails.
Can’t find a complete version on YouTube, luckily for you.

Anything that tramples all over Nights In White Satin is alright by me. One of the most overrated records of all time from one of the most boring bands (OOAA).

couldn’t have put it better myself .. a fucking dirge of monumental proportions

Bowie’s God Only Knows (or Across the Universe), he did a few good covers though

Wasn’t sure if this belonged on this thread or the other one…

I had no idea this was a cover!
Until today I only know the song from Mallard’s first album and I’ve never heard it by anyone else. Apparently it was written in 1974 so they must have recorded it very early on (as the album was 1974 as well)
Whatever thread it’s on, the Mallard version is just brilliant:

And I in my turn had never heard that before. It’s really very good.

I recommend both their albums if you’ve never heard them. Pretty easy to find digitally (even iTunes I think) although I’m not sure about CD or vinyl.
I first came across them at the time due to the musicians being ex-Magic band members ( they’d fallen out apparently, although one of the tracks is co-written by Beefheart). As you can tell from this track, it’s a fair way removed from the Magic Band but both albums are exceptional IMHO.

I kinda like the idea of Willie & Waylon, loaded to the gills, spaced out and freaking off on A Whiter Shade and deciding to cut a version. Mind you, I have no intention to actually make the effort to hear it.

My least favourite Madness songs were always the ones celebrating everyday life (Our House, Baggy Trousers and so on) but even I have to admit that the original of Driving in my Car pips the one by Maureen from Driving School.

Sometimes there’s nothing wrong with a Bad Cover Version

This was the B-side

In a strange way (a very strange way) some of William Shatners vocal stylings are weirdly engaging, even (almost) wonderful – Common People being a prime example.
But this one? Nah

Warning: I intend to digitize and upload Gerry Monroe’s cover of BOTW this week, for your listening horror. Who’s Gerry Monroe, you ask? http://carbootvinyldiaries.blogspot.co.uk/2015/01/little-box-of-horrors-part-1.html

Del Shannon’s ‘Runaway’, in German. Sounds pretty decent, until you get to a certain point.

There is not enough Bay City Rollers on this site for my liking.
I have to admit the original is much better. Thanks for the royalties lads.
