The annual voting for the supremely ludicrous Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is currently underway. Innovative musical giants The Cars, the Eurythmics and the seminal J Geils Band are up against also-rans like Nina Simone, Kate Bush, Depeche Mode and Radiohead. Might be worth a moment of your precious time:

Oh well, the link doesn’t seem to work, but a copy and paste should do it.
Why select J Geils as not worthy of running against Nina Simone?
Radiohead would have been a much more sensible choice.
I think it’s mostly because they’re shit.
But less shit than Radiohead.
I find their shitness is unparalleled. And quite partial to the more tune-friendly side of Radiohead.
I can’t tell you how much I destested Eurythmics and that Lennox woman.
I bet I detest her and them more than you.
Does anyone think Carl needs a blowjob?
Thanks for thinking of me.
Why? Why, why, why, why?
Their first two albums are tremendous, second one especially. Third one isn’t bad. Edgy, tuneful, danceable, cool, beautifully sung. Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This) is the finest example of synth-pop I can think of right now. Here Comes The Rain Again is fabulous.
Sure, success went to their heads. She became a bit diva-ish and strange. He kind of disappeared up his own backside. But, they aren’t the only ones for that to happen to. In fact, maintaining sanity at all in that maelstrom is some kind of achievement.
Leave Eurythmics alone.
Because I was subjected to their second and third albums ad nauseam.
I see. Same here but Pink Floyd.
The Eurythmics? “Edgy”?
Search instead for eggy.
Oh yes. In the beginning. Love Is A Stranger has a wiff of the dark side, for example.
I think you can if you put your mind to it.
J.Geils were great! Far more rock ‘n’ roll than any of the others cited. The idea and reality of the Hall of Fame has always been cringemaking.
No further questions your honour.
I’m with Rufus
No, Chaka Khan’s with Rufus.
Hail Freedonia!
Exactly. J Geils at Imperial College 1973…still the greatest live performance I’ve ever seen. Long before Centrefold and Love Stinks and making a pitch for MOR sales, they were a phenomenal rock n’ roll band. Listen to Hold Your Lovin’, Pack Fair n’ Square, Struttin’ With My Baby. I suspect Hall Of Fame nomination is linked to recent demise of John Geils Jr.
The early to mid 70s was their prime. Peter Wolf was an incredible frontman (check out his demented and hilarious intros to Musta Got Lost on YouTube) and the entire band was unbelievably tight. Full House is an exceptional live album. Blow Your Face Out less so, but it still has its moments. Nick Hornby’s essay on First I Look at the Purse (!) is well worth checking out. The 80s stuff I can take or leave.
Usual god-awful popularity contest: https://www.rockhall.com/vote-results
Surely Link Wray and The MC5 are more rock n roll than The Moody Blues, Dire Straits, and The Cars?
What is the point of the rock ‘n’ roll hall of fame? Presumably one or more of those acts will be inducted into it, so what? A rock ‘n’ roll hall of fame doesn’t seem like a very rock ‘n’ roll thing to me.
I think it was Jann Wenner of Rolling Stone’s idea. It would seem to stem from that magazine’s po-faced approach to r’n’r and all things pop cultural. Baseball has its hall of fame. Not sure if American football or ice hockey do.
If still alive, Nina Simone wouldn’t be seen dead in any Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall Of Fame.
Give it to Link Wray and let’s hear no more of it.
… or just hear no more of it
look, let’s just all vote for The Zombies, eh?
