Rufus T Firefly commented on the post, Ripley 1 week, 5 days ago
I’ve watched three episodes and it’s just not working for me. I don’t think I’ve seen Andrew Scott in anything else, but he’s failing to convey any of the charm that a character like Ripley must have. I don’t […]

Rufus T Firefly commented on the post, Stewart Lee tickets for Reading 29th Feb 1 month, 3 weeks ago
I’d rather go to the conference (well, someone had to say it…). (Repeats “I’d rather go to the conference” with different emphases on every syllable until the end of time. Audience creases up at every new iteration…).

… and then there are the unwanted, mind sapping intervals with Rylan’s mother, his KaRyoke section where he demonstrates his utter lack of singing ability. I’ve been told that he too is a lovely bloke, but I’ve […]

Great series with several excellent characters and subplots. I especially enjoyed the Cutter subplot. However, I suspect that knowing someone like Loudermilk in real life would be extremely tedious.

I’d be more surprised if I attended a BJM fight and a gig accidentally broke out.

Rufus T Firefly commented on the post, Game On – Artists Who Left you Gagging for More 5 months, 3 weeks ago
The Unbelievable Truth. Gloomy but wonderful debut (Almost Here, 1998), puzzling follow up in 2000, messy compilation of B-sides, live tracks and unreleased songs a year later, then nothing. If you could wear out […]

I liked the reference to that legendary muscle car, the pride of British Leyland, the MG Midget!

Rufus T Firefly commented on the post, Apocalypse Now Then – Steve Coogan IS Jimmy Savile – The Reckoning BBC1 and BBC iPlayer 6 months, 1 week ago
Tom Cruise IS Rain Man! Errr, his character may have had some defects, but Dustin Hoffman was the autistic Raymond / Rain Man. Re The Reckoning, I agree that Steve Coogan’s performance was stunning and should […]

Thanks for the correction. It was an astonishing book, and life. I’ll look out for those titles.

Rufus T Firefly commented on the post, The vocabulary of those younger than most of us 7 months ago
If you haven’t read it, I can recommend his autobiography. It has the compelling title: “You Cannot Live as I Have and Not End Up Like This” and is absolutely compelling and decadent. Incidentally, I think his […]

“I’m not gonna lie…” a. I would hope not. b. So you are an habitual liar and you’re making an exception? c. Go ahead and lie. I’m not going to listen.

“Is it true” from “On the Border” and “Try and love again” from “Hotel California” are both very good.

It would be nice if the authors of these deathless lines were credited. I haven’t a clue about most of them.

That’s pretty much my experience, which covers almost the last 20 years! The new one reminds me of Further/Deeper: it just drifts along with little to grab me.

I also have an Alessi stovetop (apparently Sr Bialetti was the grandfather of Sr Alessi). I’m not sure if the design is the same, but I tamp the coffee just as tightly (ooh missus!) as I do with the La Pavoni. It […]
