Todd Rundgren’s Utopia did the original “Love is the Answer”. TR’s U have a wonderfully diverse oeuvre. Acid-drenched prog and synth wig-outs, girlie MOR ballads, kick-ass stadium rawk directed to the American […]

We are getting dangerously close to the “Oasis better than the Beatles” rhetoric here. I will smile politely and continue with my own reassuring prejudices that cack is cack. And I should know – I listen to enough of it.

The Winwood/ Clapped-Out live album is excellent, and I’m a Clapton/ Abba avoider.

Exactly. And the first three solos have more going for them than the remaining 97 (there are over a 100 solo albums). You would not want to be cornered at a party by one of the superfans. But as a supporting […]

Only change it with new functionality if you can do it without cocking it up. we all know what “improvements” to websites can mean.

I went to both 1978 events. The Genesis one was dull, though Devo were amusing. Tom petty was on, but the warm up show I saw by him at the Marquee was better. The second event was in September and much better. […]

Rick Wakeman is a great side man. Brilliant, even. As a solo artist, dull. (yes, I know he put King Arthur on ice- that was his last interesting solo moment.) A worthy replacement for jools Holland, though.

Besides, he’s got a lacky to feed the mog. Best the lazy bastard never made his bed or made a cup of tea. The cat, that is. I would never be insensitive about such a kind and circumspect man.

Quoasis as good as Led Zeppelin. What, like Justin Timberlake is as good as James Brown? This hyperbole stuff is just lazy journalism affecting the worst aspects of the NME (who once touted “Birdland” as the […]

The agit-propness of The Clash has always amused me. As MtM so cruelly observes, the Tories ran in fear, and never saw power again. I saw them on the “White Riot” tour, and regularly until 1982, and they were […]

If tats are fashionable and people are going to face a lifetime of regret as that facial/ neck combo fails to look so good in 35 years, just imagine how those who regret gender reassignment will feel.

Don’t like them (or piercings or body mutilation like earlobe stretches, etc). In civilians it looks fickle. On sailors, builders and bikers, it works. But modestly, not the “my body is a canvas” extensive […]

Another thumbs up for Jerusalem. The ELP version will have the Tory boys slathering, and the Billy Bragg variant shows lefties CAN hold their nose and like their own country. Though to really unify the country, […]

I find bullish nationalism creepy and thuggish, though liking where you grew up is hardly a bad thing. It’s OK for the Celtic nations to have their nationalism, so why not England as well? One thing I don’t […]

In the naughty upstairs bedroom some are ensconced with “two bags of grass, five sheets of acid, 75 hits of mescaline, a salt-shaker of cocaine, a galaxy of uppers, downers and screamers and a bottle of ether”. […]

I like “The Observe”r (my favoured Sunday paper), but find “The Guardian” a travesty of what it once was, and can’t even be bothered to read it on-line any more. In it’s favour, the Saturday version has good food […]

This. Loved Sharon Jones and Charles Bradley. Underwhelmed by the various ullulators out there, though Lizzo has a lot going for her, as it were.
