Most shit bands have one good song (apart from U2). And I remember even in the 90’s when faced with tunes like “Cherub Rock” and albums like “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness” thinking that the Smashing Pumpkins were just wretchedly awful in every way. Even their name sucked. And this was before Billy Corgan turned into a foaming at the mouth right wing nut job.
So, pretentious? TICK. Rubbish? TICK. Dickheads? TICK.
But yet they did this tune. Which I still really like
So my question is, what are the pearls among swine in your lives? What are the songs from the bands that you hate which give you pause for thought?

I like One

Me too. And many more. Not worth putting them here though…

I also like One

It’s tempting, for comedy reasons, to chime in with another U2 song – but I wouldn’t do that to you.
But to answer the OP – Curiosity Killed the Cat had many counts against them:
1. Stupid name
2. Wobbly-legged, beret-wearing, hyphenated besurnamed, pouty pretty boy singer
3. Stupid name later shortened in a vain attempt at a reboot.
But – dammit – their first single is a great pop song.

I will not click on that. I fear that may be his sex face.
Urrrrrggghhh.
ganglesprocket says
I quite liked “Misfit” by them as well…

Not sure what thread this belongs in. Best Cover of a shite bands one song by a girl band who won X Factor” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hT_HWIIKbG8

Can’t imagine anyone citing Thompson Twins as their fave band, but Hold Me Now is a great song. Lovely melody and good lyrics too. As an example, the internal rhyme in the line “We fuss and we fight and delight in the tears that we cry until dawn”.
I know a lot of people like Pet Shop Boys, but I can’t stand them. But I have to admit that Being Boring is a very fine song indeed.

Chant No 1 – Spandau Ballet. Great song, but the spands were the Nickelback of new romanticism.
ganglesprocket says
That’s a prime example of what I was talking about. Chant No 1 is ace.
Vulpes Vulpes says
Half A World Away.
Derivative, match, but a great song, and a “b” side too, which is a bonus on the back of something naff.
Rigid Digit says
Razorlight – Debut album was OK, not overly fussed by later offerings, and Johnny Burrell is a knob of the highest order.
This is pretty good though – Somewhere Else
Moose the Mooche says
JB: “I’m wishing I was somewhere else”
Witty listener: “So am I, pal”

I want to suggest The Killers, but I don’t think thy’re actually s****
(Not brilliant, but not s**** either – a case of “Average” I suppose)
This song however, far out-performs anything else in their catalogue

I think you’ll find this one is a bit of a corker too.
Milkybarnick says
Ah, I find them very hit and miss too, but love this one:
Freddy Steady says
Yep a good tune but the middle eight appears to be sung by Meatloaf. Go on, listen again.
retropath2 says
Even given the undeniable pathos of the backstory, it remains a song I happily accept is a class A act.
BaldySlaphead says
It’s heartbreaking to think that you’ll live forever (barring decapitation), while your loved ones die, isn’t it? 😉
When I read your caption I thought it was going to be “These Are The Days Of Our Lives”.

Golden Earring – Radar Love. Great song, heard other stuff which was complete cack.
