Public Service Announcement.
This just popped into my inbox from Bandcamp – sadly, the signed copies bumper edition is already sold out, but the ‘standard’ limited edition vinyl version is still available at the time of writing for £30.
One of the best live reggae albums ever released, this is a doozie. Possibly a doobie doozy if you are so inclined. Get going if you want one, ‘cos I&I reckon they’ll be gone pretty quickly; See Them Ah Come, PayPal at the ready.

Yes, an outstanding live album. Deeply spiritual.
“When we trod this land, we walk for one reason. The reason is to try to help another man to think for himself.”
That line was included in the order of service for John Peel’s funeral in Bury St. Edmunds in 2004
you’re like a cabbage in this society…
Saw Misty In Roots (Supported by The Passions) at Acklam Hall in West London sometime in the very late ’70s. They were fabulous.
I have “Live at The Counter Eurovision ’79” on vinyl (People Unite PU003 ALB on the disc labels, PU002 etched on the run-out. Catalogue number PU003 ALB on the back of the sleeve.)
I have never owned this in vinyl form (until this 50th anniversary LP arrives, anyway!). I did however have a cassette copy for yonks, but a few years back it was slowly dying the death of all overplayed tapes. There was a discussion on here about great reggae LPs and obviously the Misty disc was mentioned – I moaned that I’d love a copy on CD, but at that time it was not available and the 2nd hand prices were ludicrous. To my delight dear Stimpy of this parish posted me a CD-R copy of his own disc. I still have – and treasure – that copy.
And I, in turn, got a copy of that copy. Thanks to Foxy and nice to be reminded of Stimpy as it always is to recall the ones we’ve lost..
P.S. I’m almost afraid to mention it in the light of recent threads, but I see it is up on Spotify now – other streaming sites too, presumably – which has not previously been the case..
Yep, on Apple Music now too.
No sign of Earth or Wise and Foolish though.
Out on 1st Oct but orderable now. The whole back catalogue is coming, too. I only have the live album on a second hand and slightly worn vinyl.
Misty’s “Wise and Foolish” LP is pretty good, too.
Earth the next one after Wise And Foolish is pretty good too. Just played it today.
Thanks both. I will doubtless pick them up too.
Have to root through my big box of cassettes (on top of the bookcase gathering dust).
Pretty sure I have “Wise And Foolish” on one side of a C-90 in there.
“Roots Controller” from 2015 is all that’s available so far on Qobuz.
Ordered on Bandcamp. Haven’t heard it in years.
Peel was an enormous fan.
Here is a list of the shows they did for him..

and one of the tracks from 1979
I like the idea of the ‘Counter Eurovision’. That’s very much a Rik from the Young Ones idea.
The only live reggae albums you need are this wailers live and toots routes
Maybe add …
Aswad – Live and Direct
Burning Spear – Live at Paris Zenith ’88
Bob Marley & the Wailers – Live at the Roxy
Burning Spear – Live
Deffo the Spear albums.
Live reggae albums were often poorly recorded.
The list provided by Duco is a good one.
Gregory Issacs live in London is good too perhaps next level down.
And second-hand reggae vinyl is often so previously loved that We Buy Records have a special category of “condition: reggae”.
A CD version would’ve been nice.
What would also be nice would be a reissue of the long-lost “Misty Over Sweden” album from 1979. There are some who rate it even higher than “Counter Eurovision”…

For your listening pleasure, here is the whole album, @duco01
Recorded on the Nacksving Mobile 11-12th April 1979 in Göteborg and Linköping by Tommy Rander, assisted by Richard Olsson and Johan Norberg.
Next time i visit the Skivhögen second hand shop, i will ask what the current market price is.
It is also on Spotify …
Here’s some background about the Swedish record company that released it.

031-25 Misty: Misty over Sweden
Spelades in live under en turne´ ihop med Björn Afzelius Band i Sverige. Kontakt med Misty In Roots togs våren -79 via organisationen Rock Against Racism i London.
Here is Björn Afzelius who Misty toured with in 1979.
He was very popular here in Sweden. @Locust doubtless knows a lot more about him than i do.
I saw this documentary about him and enjoyed it a lot.
A dedicated socialist he was an ardent supporter of Olof Palme

Now available for pre-order! Got mine in.

Just for the hell of it, here’s a link to another of my all time favourite reggae LPs:
That Yabby You album is splendid, @vulpes-vulpes
I’d never heard of it so i had a Google.
It’s been re-released several times with different names-

On Spotify it is Walls of Jerusalem
Please, can we have a little more of this kind of stuff.
As you said please, barely topic-adjacent, here’s Barrington Levy in fine voice only last week on KEXP:
Thanks a lot @sewer-robot.-
What an excellent start to my day. KEXP do have some excellent sessions. All sorts of interesting surprises.
They give NPR’S Tiny Desk a run for their money. a win win situation for us listeners.
Excellent that these local radio stations now have fans around the world.
Here is the complete session that Barrington did for them.
Certainly – here’s another gem – the rest of this album is on YT, but only as separate tracks I think:
Pressure Sounds put out a lot of VJ material in recent years. I’m lucky to have a few of these albums on original vinyl, but the CD re-releases gather up a lot of splendid additional contemporaneous material, making them equally desirable.
More superb Yabby:
Gawd, it’s raining Misty lately: a “From The Archives” collection is followed, this week, by a Peel Sessions collection. On Spotify at least (and, I expect, other streaming services), but not on their own Bandcamp page, I note. And, therefore, not likely to appear in solid form????
The Peel Sessions came out on CD in 1995. It is very rare (expect to pay 50 quid).
