We all started somewhere to get to where we are today, hopeless addicts looking for the next hit from an album or an an artist, that fulfills out needs, that hits the spot. This journey may have started with The Rubettes 1974 album “Where it’s At” ( the mother of the guitarist ran a paper shop up the road from where I lived in 1975 opposite Olympia in London, where I moved with my Dad and girlfriend after he left my Mum) My actual gateway musical drug started in 1969 when I was 7 and ” helped” my Dad on his milkround on the weekends and he paid me extra pocket money to pick up the empties. I was saving for a bike but blew it on the Help album by The Fabs. It felt reckless but it also felt like I had decided something for myself for the very first time. Nobody in my family seemed to ” love ” music, although we had a Dansette in the lounge where my Dad played The Sandpipers and Peter,Paul and Mary on occasion. The next album I bought was Tubular Bells that my English Teacher played to our class at the end of » Continue Reading.

Advice needed …Is there an online site that gives information of what musician plays on album tracks and what instrument they play? My CD buying has all but ceased (Spotify and Qobuz being my replacement) but I miss the minutiae of album info found on the CD insert Any pointers would be gratefully received, cheers all.

Erik Koskinen – On Christmas Day
I saw Low last week in Bristol, they played their Christmas album and were fantastic. There were two supports before the main show, the first being Erik Koskinen, who also joined Low for their Christmas set and sang this song. The video shows US GI’s putting on a spread and entertainment for some orphans…..the song and video has been in my brain and heart all week. He has some good albums on Spotify and I just wanted to highlight it to you guys, the massive, who have given me good suggestions for music to explore on this site and the previous one. I hope you all enjoy whatever Christmas break you have this year and get some respite from the utter bollocks that was 2016 Sláinte !

Theme Time Radio Hour – Urgently Needed
Hello “The Massive” I posted earlier this week on the Bob Dylan is rubbish thread. Now as we all know, according to the foie gras hating Brass in Pocket chanteuse Chrissie Hynde, there is a thin line between love and hate. For most of my 53 years I never “got” Dylan and pretty much hated his music, but in the past thee months it just clicked and now I have all that body of work to explore and spend time with…lucky old me! I do however need a, ahem, download of the complete Theme Time Radio Hour, of course I do, you guys know how it is if anyone does…and I can’t find it on my usual dodgy t’internet sites. I am hoping someone out there in obsessive musicland can help a Dylan newbie and point me in the right direction for this. Thanks in advance etc etc.
