I recommend this.
Only 2 full episodes in so far. He passes on advice to questions listeners think he might be able to help with. How to choose a nice white shirt. How not to procrastinate. Should I go to a party if I hate chit-chat.
Etc.
The advice so far has been both excellent and laconic.

There was a substantial article about this in The Observer yesterday. Looks very entertaining.
Thank you for drawing my attention to this one. I’ve subscribed, but I have to add that if they truly are Laconic they’d be a lot shorter!
Good point. ‘Dry’ might be the better word.
That sounds very agreeable. This mornings dog walk soundtrack will be Mr Nighy. Thanks for the tip.
OK I’m in. For the good of my health I need alternatives to politics podcasts.
Back from the dog walk. What an agreeable podcast. I mean that as very high praise indeed.
I thought so too. He’s as laid-back as you might expect and very quietly entertaining but no trace of smart-arsery.
I believe Bill Nighy to be an excellent role model. It would be an aspirational one, obviously.
Does he give any hints as to how young thesps might
emulate his incredible range as an actor
Ha ha! I thought I was the only non-fan of Mr Nighy’s “acting”. He’s been delivering exactly the same bored / boring performance for at least 20 years, regardless of the movie. If he’s in something, I now know to avoid it.
I’m not sure I agree. In “Still Crazy” he was amazing as the aging rock star. In that little series he made with Helene Bonham Carter where he was a spy on the run he did quite a bit. And let’s not forget Love Actually. He’s Bill, not a character actor who is different in everything.
Trademark BN snort
I saw the trailer for “Love Actually”. I’ve managed to dodge the rest of it ever since…
Living was good
It was that.
I like his odd facial tics and shudders, that punctuate every gap between his carefully chosen words. (Or his well learnt lines, I guess.)
Yes! In essence, move around a bit.
I think he’d be the last person to argue that he has a huge range.
In fairness to Bill – and in diametric opposition to the vainglorious rantings of most actors – he’s always said he’s been happy to be typecast. It helps with getting cast, as Judy Dench will attest:
Casting Director 1: “We need an older, sophisticated type…sort of like Judy Dench.”
Casting Director 2: “How about Judy Dench?”
Casting Director 1: “I love it!”
Or as Dudley is attributed as saying
“Who’s Dudley Moore?”
“Get me Dudley Moore!”
“The part calls for a Dudley Moore type”
“We need a younger Dudley Moore”
“Who’s Dudley Moore?”
If you haven’t heard it I strongly recommend his edition of This Cultural Life on BBC Sounds/Radio 4 with the excellent John Wilson who is as good a cultural interviewer as his dad Bob was a goalkeeper. I listened whilst driving and was laughing out loud frequently, not least when he was describing his limitations as an actor. I agree with @twang though – cast in the right part he can be very funny or very moving as may be required.

This Bob Wilson?
