This set restores the band’s vision and intent in an essential new collection of 30 rare performances including 29 studio outtakes (25 previously unreleased) from the mythic 1968 sessions that became the album, and also debuts a previously unreleased live performance of ‘Ball and Chain’, recorded live at Winterland Ballroom on April 12, 1968.

Interesting interview with Marianne Faithfull here. I was surprised to read of her link with erstwhile Chilli Willi (amongst others) axeman, Martin Stone, citing he was her go to guitarist. Odd, as I have never been aware of that, even to the extent of starting to do a discogs search of her solo output which showed lots of other names but not his. Driving through Lichfield one night last week we came to a temporary traffic light on red for some road works. It seemed to be on red for an inordinate length of time. My daughters boyfriend said ‘If you flash your lights repeatedly it thinks you are an ambulance and will turn to green to let you through. We used to do it all the time when I was in the car with my mum, its hilarious’. It occurred to me that how would we know if this was true or not because there is not evidence that it would be the case – more coincidence. Also an ambulance would drive through regardless of whether the lights were red or green. Is this an urban myth, an old wives tale or a shaggy dog story? There are many around, what are your favourites?

We’ve seen quite a few films over the years where the director or producers have gone back and changed bits with the use of CGI. The changes to the original Star Wars films were a mixed bag, as some of the changes were great, but then he went and made Greedo shoot first. And Steven Spielberg substituted guns for walkie talkies in ET, which is maybe the right decision for a kid friendly film. But if you were given the chance to change something from a film, using the magic of CGI what would it be?

I’m not sure you could use CGI to replace Sofia Coppola in Godfather Part III, so I’d change two other films. Firstly, Night of the Demon is a fantastic film, some of the dialogue even popping up on Kate Bush’s greatest album, but it is spoiled somewhat once you see the demon at the end. So I’d replace the demon with something that looks less like a monster from an early episode of Doctor Who.

Recently I have been wandering through the forests of classic fusion – I’m not an expert but have been stopping to think whether or not I like Mahavishnu or Weather Report (a bit too ‘dry’ particularly Weather Report?) or Billy Cobham.

Then I got Agharta – this could possibly be the peak of all musical existence , well unless you’re having a dinner party. Stupendous.

And I have now continued my journey, with a bit more groove in my step, to find anything else that hits that vein. So please assume the alien is a groovy one – let me have your wig-outs.

No one can go deep undercover like me, There has been some worrying noises recently about the suggestion that the Massive may be losing its vice-like grip on contemporary youth culture and losing touch with the kids out there – the kids on the street, yeah?

So when my nine year old boy asked me to the School Disco, I didn’t see it as a tedious excursion to the world of forced jollity that only teachers can enfoist – more an opportunity. What are listening to? What is moving our kids? So here I am.

Right now it’s the Witch Doctor which iirc is Homer Simpson’s favourite song. The undoubted highlight so far has been Baby Shark. The floor crammed with tots going ape crazy. I have also learned about the Flossing dance and the Orange Justice dance. These are apparently from the video game Fortnite (Ross Schwimmer voice) I did not know that.

Hells teeth now they’re playing YMCA. One for the parents apparently. Oh god now it’s the Birdy Song. They had a version of Marcerena earlier that’s got Alison Moyet’s laugh in it. Again I did not know that.

A lot of recent upheaval in the production of the next Bond film (cunningly titled Bond 25), with Daniel Craig being on board, but the loss of Danny Boyle as director.

I see now they have announce Cary Fukunaga as the replacement Director and the release date still down as November 2019.

I believe e that Cary Fukunaga was the director of the first season of True Detective, which was one of the best TV shows in recent years, so in my mind this looks promising…

So…. – Is Bond still relevant ? Has Mission Impossible stolen it’s thunder ? Any thoughts on this new director ? Who will be the next Bond ? Who is the best Bond ? Which was the best movie ?

For the record, I still love Bond films, so Yes, No, Promising, Idris Elba, Connery (with Craig just behind) and Goldfinger.

I am not a svelte person myself and I know the effect middle age can have on the body, but this change is rather alarming in a pretty short time.
