Have ventured into the world of podcasts with a little effort of my own. It’s on 80s music, so unlikely to be of much interest here, but I am looking for other recommended music podcasts – especially ones that do interviews, to compare and contrast.
What are the best ones out there? I already listen to The Hustle (and regularly chat with the host, Jon) and Rockenteurs. Any other goodies you would recommend?
For mine, so far i’ve had the pleasure of interviewing Langer/Winstanley, Hugh Padgham, Stephen Lipson, Chris Hughes and many others (did a whole season of interviews relating to Tears For Fears) and I am looking to check out the competition! (albeit from a much lower level…)
[Would also be grateful for any feedback on my little effort..cheers]

The recent rumours all appear to be true. On Friday, teasers began to appear for a new Paul album, McCartney III, assumed to be a fully solo, everything played by Macca, lockdown special. The date is expected to be Dec 11th.
To see the teaser, go to Spotify and pull up the album artwork for any track on the McCartney or McCartney II albums and you should see a dice rolling a 3.
There’s also a website: www.mccartneyiii.com.
I am looking forward to this.

It was announced yesterday that there is a new album on the way from The Monkees. 2016’s Good Times was a fantastic listen and they’ve gotten the band together one more time for a, wait for it, Christmas Album!
The Monkees Christmas Party has new and old contributions from all the people who generally live inside my pop brain. Produced by Adam Schlesinger (Fountains of Wayne) and with new songs via Any Partidge, Rivers Cuomo and Peter Buck, plus they’re going to do *those* songs made famous by Roy Wood and Paul McCartney. Peter Buck also plays on a cover of Big Star’s Jesus Christ. Who doesn’t want to hear that??!? It worth saying again: Peter Buck plays guitar on a Big Star cover on the new Monkees album. What a time to be alive.

Just in case anyone is wondering why its so damn quiet on the McCartney front at the moment, here’s a rather good interview from the new GQ. Given he has been uncommonly open on recent encounters with Marc Maron, Howard Stern, he’s on equally good form here. Nothing shockingly revelatory but a good read nonetheless.

Sir Paul has announced a new ‘career-spanning’ compilation, due out in June, entitled “Pure McCartney”. There was some speculation a few days ago after Sir Paul released snippets of some remixes of ‘Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five’ that a remix project was in the offing. However, it seems that it was just a precursor to the compilation announcement (neither remix appears on any of the compilation variants, by the way). The full 4 CD tracklisting is listed in the article. FWIW, I think it looks pretty good, and if I’m feeling flush come June, I may put my hand in my pocket for this one. Added bonus – no ‘C Moon’.

Aspiring writers are often told to write about what they know and it’s an adage that Tobias Jesso Jr has taken to heart. With a title like ‘Without You’ there is a strong clue about where and when he’s coming from with this track from his album ‘Goon’ as well as who is inspirations are. Yes, it’s another young singer/songwriter mining the classic balladry of classic singer/songwriters. But oh boy, he does it so well I don’t care. Ignore if you hate that melodic sentimentality Macca sprinkles like icing sugar on candy floss.
