Like this ditty. And in general, I believe Beck to be a force for good in a godless universe. The Significant Other is a big fan so I get a fair bit of exposure ( and Beck as well – thanks Moose).
When he first happened along with Mellow Gold and Odelay, thought he was a real game changer but I can’t help the slight feeling that with the odd exception from time to time, he has kept company with our old friends Mr Smoke and Mr Mirrors and their chum Mr Treading-Water.
I ventured to suggest as much to the S.O and she threatened to be off games until I recanted. So I did.
I thought last year’s album was okay, at best – it all seemed very mid tempo to me. This is more punchy – but I don’t buy it. It’s like he thought ‘I need a punchy track now – I’ll set the dials to jaunty’, but I don’t think he’s really having fun, hasn’t for over a decade, I reckon.
Love him, love this.
I’ll just say this and move on.
I don’t like Beck. I think he’s taking the piss.
There, I’ll shut up now.
You are dead to me.
Dead.
Fair enough, if you never want to hear my poetry again.
Only if you spank your lute at the same time.
No can do, it got warped by the Hai Karate fumes.
Darn – thought this was gonna be a thread about Pink Floyd.
Tried very hard indeed to like The Album of 2014: I err towards Moochie on this one.
You much prefer Melanie De Biasio, don’t you, hen?
Moi, aussi. Found it limp, dull and lacking in choons.
Give me five years of listening to nothing but Beck rather than one more single play of Melanie dB…..
You can largely keep Beck. He has moments, but I’m not super convinced by him.
Anyway, “1989” was the album of 2014, as any fule no.
Was it fuck
Are we allowed to say negative things on threads celebrating an act now? I can’t keep up.
Yes, but we’re not allowed to say positive things on threads dissing an act. Unless it’s Pete Doherty. It’s all in the FAQs.
How, how can you not like this song? How is that even possible?
Scientific tests have PROVED that they’re all wrong, Ruby. Just enjoy the track, safe in the knowledge that we’re better than everyone else.

This is brill- really 80s sounding & would be great to dance to. Loving it. Thanks for posting, Ruby, I wasn’t aware of this til now.
Utterly adored his vibey album, have played it trillions of times & it gets deeper with every listen.
Oh it wasn’t me! All credit to Chris.
He’s been working with Nile Rodgers I think, and you can tell. I love the tempo change, and when it speeds up again after ‘Here we are….’
Ooops, so it was! Soz Chris & fankyew!
Yes, he’s got his grooving trousers on again & it sounds mighty exciting.
OH oh oh, OH oh-oh.
