Agree Jaco’s bass can be be mesmeric but kind of intrusive. On Coyote’s it’s brilliant. Or Song For Sharon. Or Hejira’s title track. Yet it meanders into being virtuosic for its own sake. A tendency more ev […]

Beautifully written and cogently articulated piece. Rarely, under the broad mantle of what might be called Pop have any works been so sophisticated, in its true sense, or as adult in form and content as that of […]

Agree with Tigs only to add there is little “probably” about it. Any group that produced Denis Edwards, Eddie Kendricks, the lesser known Paul Williams and my favourite singer of them all, David Ruffin, is as […]

Much to my surprise, I am enjoying The Crown. Period drama is not my thing but encouraged by my Significant Other, I gave it a try and I have to say it is very well done. Absolute hokum, but […] -

I too am loving Bitches Brew. It’s a bit of a (re)discovery for me as I tended to eschew Jazz Rock as a genre for the past few decades. However, I’m enjoying this and other stuff from the era like Chick Corea and […]

Know what you mean about Sleepyhead. Sort of a TV crime drama pitch in search of a novel. I’m not sure Billingham does character quite as well as he does plot twist. That does not make him unique amongst crime […]

A caricature of his former self. Too often descending into repetition and self-parody. Late night rambles and a foggy, druggy vibe. Past their best but I expect we’ll miss them when they are gone.

Is the Pixies, Sonic Youth and PJ Harvey covering The Fall “unexpected”? They would seem to occupy a similar musical hinterland.

@Dai – that article is a beautifully written piece. Thank you for sharing it. Read it earlier as I took shelter from the rain in a coffee shop in Soho. It was the perfect accompaniment.
