Guitarist of Pilot and The Alan Parsons Project as well as the player of the wonderful solo at the end of Kate Bush’s (wonderful anyway) Wuthering Heights.
A very much underrated 70s pop band who stood out from the crowd with some great songs and the always inventive and melodic playing of Ian Bairnsom. January and Magic are the best known songs but there is some fine stuff hidden away like this one
I love that solo at the end of WH and, like many I’d imagine, thought at first it was Kate’s old sponsor David Gilmour. RIP Mr Bairson, that’s a wide ranging career.

I do love a melodic lead player. He did great work with the Alan Parsons Project too.

Born and brought up in the Shetland Islands. Which coincidentally and appropriately is known to the natives as ‘the old rock’. He had some career.
