How weird that Kevin is exploring Irish music just at the same time I’m leaving the Boortleg Runners to do the same thing.
I heard his version of Carrickfergus yesterday on Maconie and i thought it was OK but not a patch on, say, Liam Clancy’s version.
Perhaps he means they are taking the song in completely new directions, thereby rendering the notion of covert versions redundant. A bit like Hayseed Dixie, Dread Zeppelin or the Dickies.
I love that trailer – it’s beautifully done. Is the idea here that the band is reuniting with the woman with the violin? Is that the corner where the Come on Eileen video was filmed? Is this Kev finally agreeing to come up with Too Rye Ay part deux ?
“Clothes on” – that’s a good look for Kev…

(I like to think the luscious Mr Rowland’s finds room under those baggy “new look” trews for a bit of old-fashioned corsetry and hose.)
Thank goodness it’s not called ‘Dexy’s Do Country’n’Irish. Can you imagine Kevin doing something like this? BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
cheers for that Colin – it’s Uncle Hugo all over. Are there songs about Joan from Tyrone, Mary from Derry etc from the same artist?
You never hear many songs in honour of Miss Waffley from Offally, do you?
I hate that stuff. I worked with someone doing that style a few years back. It’s still very popular in Glasgow.

Carrickfergus neither a patch on my own favourite, Van and the Chieftains. Hell, Bryan Ferry’s version is better.
Kevin started talking not long ago about Ferry/Roxy being an influence on Dexys. I can’t hear it myself.
I’m too feart to click on Ferry’s version of Carrickfergus.
Why? It’s bloody great!
Misplaced apostrophe – its Dexys these days
“This record is not a stop gap, or a fill in album. It is not a covers album, these are Dexys interpretations”.
Hmmm, looks like a covers LP to me
I don’t think there ever should have been an apostrophe in Dexys. So Kevin says.

Wow, ‘Peaky Blinders’ has changed a bit…
