I have all those versions, plus the boxed set of 7″ singles that came with a peacock feather. I’m really looking forward to seeing what SW can do with this album.

L&WR used to really annoy me until I heard the Anthology version, which is just the fabs, and I realised just how great a song it is. The ‘stripped’ version shows how good the band, especially Macca, were, apart […]

Great article, and I will henceforth on the (very) rare occasion they arise in conversation not use the definitive article, but for me they are irredeemable. You know the old saying about taking an instant dislike […]

Again, surely this mass and the spider’s web arrangement is to reduce/ignore external vibrations? I don’t see how this could mitigate any issues with the main bearing, or the arm bearings.

You wouldn’t include the Rega Planar 10 in that list @ £4500?

The change in sound you hear will be inherent to the differences in the cartridges design, frequency response etc.
I know that a long time ago, Linn stated the hierarchy of importance for a turntable system was, […] -

The bubble wrap, in your analogy, would ‘deal with’ vibration external to the TT. What I was specifically talking about what internal vibrations, caused by low tolerance mechanical interfaces. The TT has a bearing […]

I believe the improvements come from the tighter mechanical tolerances in the likes of bearings etc. The amount of movement the stylus makes is tiny, so if any other part of the TT is creating unwanted movement […]

re RHI, a year ago I would’ve agreed with you, but seeing the amount of money spent by the Westminster government, and with who, during the Covid pandemic has given me pause for thought. Who would’ve though the […]

Dee was the drummer when I joined (as bass player). After 1/2 hours practice it was painfully obvious I was no bass player. What was also obvious was that Dee had no real tub thumping ability, so we swapped. Not […]

I was a drummer in a (mildly) popular Belfast punk band, The Idiots. One side of a Good Vibrations single, the theme tune for the ‘Shellshock Rock’ movie, and goodnight Vienetta. Main claim to fame is being called […]

Or Paddy McAloon. Although he seemed to realise some years later that his solo album (I Trawl The Megahertz) was actually a Prefab Sprout album all along.
