As well as running the Cockney Rejects’ popular comeback, Jeff ‘Stinky’ Turner has recently started a podcast talking about soccer, boxing and punk – and most recently, he seems to be keen to get rid of some people from West Ham. I’m not a soccer follower myself, so does anyone know what this is about? And is he on the right or wrong side of history?
Stinky’s call to storm the barricades is in the comments.

It’s about West Ham fans’ objections to the ongoing reign as chairman of Porn Baron Sullivan. He’s deeply unpopular and has come to symbolise the lack of ambition and barrow boy business practice that are deemed to be the root of “our”, problems. I’m a lifelong Hammers fan! Karen “apprentice”, Brady is also seen as part of the problem.
I should make a confession here – when we were relegated in 2004 (I think), I blamed the lame cod-reggae version of I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles that accompanied the team entering the arena. As you would, I and my musical collaborator got tanked up on Polish Nectar (Tyskie) and recorded a banging Big Beat epic complete with Acid Bhangra breakdown and wah-wah “vocals”, burnt 3 copies on CD and sent them to the manager, chairman and stadium announcer with an explanatory letter. I’m still awaiting a response…
Who’s this Turner dude never heard of him
You might not have heard of him, but you’ll know when he’s getting closer ‘cos he’s called Stinky.
I find West Ham’s predicament one of the least football club predicaments to get bothered about.
There is a weird obsession with playing the West Ham way. Which seems to be a version of total football. It’s not one I really ever remember them playing. When they try this, they normally struggle and the supporters want a new manager. When the new manager becomes more pragmatic, the then want rid in order to play the West Ham way.
I used to like watching football at Upton Park. Tony Yeboah scored a fine goal there and I celebrated discreetly as I was sitting in the home end. It was not called the Boleyn Ground then, nor for any period I remember before or after. As soon as the London Stadium free gift stadium deal was announced, a level of misty eyed nostalgia surfaced about the Boleyn Ground. The London Stadium is a tremendous stadium but a poor football ground. Everyone knew that it was going to be so but the greed of the owners (cheap stadium and more tickets to sell) ensured a poor decision was made.
Lastly, the owners. I think only Ken Bates, the Russian fella that bought Reading FC and the recently departed Sheffield Wednesday owners are less likeable. Oh, and the Oyston’s from Blackpool.
West Ham will be alright. They might get relegated but the will be up within a season or two. But the ground will still be sterile and owners will still not understand running a football club.
What on earth is ‘total football’?

An old friend of mine is a life long Hammers fan and gave his son the middle name Boleyn 20 odd years ago, before the deal or even the Olympics. He’s always referred to it as the Boleyn ground rather than Upton Park.
I wonder has anyone named their child ‘Stinky’ in tribute to the Rejects man?
Our dog is called Windy. Any more is in the nose of the beholder.
Upton Park was a good day out. The new stadium is the worst I’ve been to in terms of atmosphere. And I’ve been to Highbury.
I worked on the London 2012 Bid, Spurs & West Ham were frequent visitors in 2003, saying once our little event was over they’d take the stadium off our hands. It was originally intended to be a 25,000 athletics / concert venue post Games. Cameron & his mate put the kibosh on that after the 2010 election…West Ham went from one of the most intimate (and intimidating) grounds to this. A disaster.
No love and even less respect for the current owners but the whole protest thing strikes me as just one huge petulant strop. Marching to insist Sullivan and Brady sell out to persons unknown, who will unquestionably be better? Utter bollocks. It’s not my club or the protestors. It’s S&B and we’re stuck with that until someone makes Sullivan a better offer. They might as well be insisting on the return of Aztec bars or The Daily Sketch.
