I think someone on a music forum started a discussion about the band I’d often wondered about over the years and thought why not so I ordered the comp for an overview and Starfish because it was the most highly rated album
I think I do unfortunately. Even though the last two albums haven’t really done it for me , I know I’ll buy a new one should it appear.
@pyramid you probably won’t get a chance to see them live but they are much harder live, sometimes spacey and psychedelic. Starfish is their hit album. I always advise newbies to try Heyday and Priest = Aura too but I’ve tried to covert friends and failed.
The loudest band I have ever seen.
They played at The Town & Country Club in Kentish Town, in the late 80s.
I wasn’t expecting anything particularly loud, but they just about blasted the roof off.
My ears were ringing for days afterwards.
I liked them in the late 1980s.
Not really bothered since.
That doesn’t add for me.
Fair comment. Was unlikely to hit the heights of Heyday or Starfish but still!
In the midst of a pretty well attended “ Singles tour”.
I quite like that. Ash Naylor on geetah.
Yes, some lovely guitar in there. Not the classic MWP/KP interplay but nice nevertheless.
I’ve been reading about recent Australian and US tours with a bit of envy as I believe Kilbey has said no more European or UK dates ever again.
Never been a fan of The Church because I hadn’t heard them nor am I a fan of churches and the stupid practices carried out in them
Recently I picked up a comp and the Starfish album I wasn’t exactly knocked out they’re OK and will maybe grow on me
But I do like this new song…a lot
@pyramid
Interesting that you’ve just picked up a comp. And Starfish. Just wondering what prompted you to do that, or where did you hear them?

I jumped ship a few albums ago. Much as I have loved The Church since the mid-80’s , I don’t feel a blind loyalty to love the later incarnations.
Fair point @chiz

I saw them at the Camden Underworld around the turn of the century and what I mostly remember is the noise. Eh?
I did live sound for Steve Kilbey a few years ago and he was – amazingly – not deaf as a post. He was very jetlagged and grumpy, though.
