Great rare Scottish psychedelic, gospel rock find in a box at the auction last week, it hardly ever turns up in such clean condition and there were never many pressed, £60 well spent.
I found a copy of this spoken word album a year or so ago but I’ll have to flip it now as this fresh copy is in better condition and has this large bizarre triangular sticker on the front!
Some fella at the record fair had a huge box labelled “folk for a quid”, I spent quite a bit with him and this wee gem was amongst them. He told me no-one buys folk records anymore, which I thought was odd.
I visited a flea market in West Berlin yesterday, on Fehrbellinerplatz. A friend had been raving about the quality of the various record stalls there. Usually in the more touristy flea markets in the East, vinyl is overpriced. But I got a great haul, all mint or VG –
Bob Dylan Bootleg Series 1-3 vinyl box for EUR50 (still sealed!)
Biff Bang Pow – Pass The Paintbrush Honey EUR5
Zep – Mothership 3CD+DVD EUR10
German pressing of the Woodstock 3LP – EUR15
REM – Eponymous EUR10
Bonnie Tyler – Nothing But A Heartache (LP) EUR2
Three more albums by underwear specialist Carmel for £4 each, the Tina Charles album with I Love To Love on it for a quid (boguth for my upcoming Charity Shop Classics disco special), and a 4-track Ezio promo CD (a bit steep at £1.50 but I’d never seen one in the wild).
The John Martyn is an excellent find. Not yet heard that Norma Winstone album but it looks like something I need to find and hear.
I don’t indulge in charity and/or record shop hunts any more. I limit myself to searching on Qobuz for stuff that’s recommended by people whose judgement I trust. Plus buying the very occasional CD from artists at gigs.
My August picks-of-the-bunch (of twelve) so far are “The Cats” by Tommy Flanagan, John Coltrane, Kenny Burrell and Idrees Sulieman (1959), “BLK2LIFE || A Future Past” by Theo Croker (2021), “The Carnegie Hall Concert” by Alice Coltrane (recorded 1971, released 2024) and “Looking Ahead” by Ken McIntyre and Eric Dolphy (1960).

Under priced (£15) record fair find last weekend, it’s not a pink label copy but an EX+ pink rimmed palm tree issue, a sweet keeper.

Seems you’ve got a bargain with the Gospelfolk LP @Gardener congrats
I never turn my back on a Budgie LP.
One of the rarest albums I have found this year is this Prog Jazz monster from 1971.
A few of the car boot 7″ finds
A Hawkwind single I had not heard of.
Bought for the title, obviously
Bought for the (South African) sleeve obviously.
One off release by an Aberdeen power-pop band.
That Budgie album is a proper hot armpit of a beast.

Going back next week for more!
The car boot at Croppers had a few surprises, with an Electric Bluebirds comp the best. CD for 50p
@retropath2 great album. And Back On The Train really should have been a hit!

A good haul. The John Martyn and Hawkwind are particularly good.
You might enjoy this @Gardener
