German Hair Metal time … if you’re going to call your band Halloween, be sure to include some pumpkin imagery, and have a song that includes the name
(the full version is 13 minutes of German Hair Metal screeching, this being the radio edit)
The Damned have a number of possible inclusions for this thematic trot through all things end-of-October-ish.
And this fits too .. latest release is a cover of There’s A Ghost In My House
I had a great Halloween synchronicity moment when I was living in Tokyo. It was back in the days of iPods, and mine was on shuffle when I emerged out of the Metro station into my neighbourhood on October 31st. The place was full of little Japanese kids in costume, sheets over their heads, vampire fangs, the lot. So I was navigating past all this lot, barely any of whom reached my hip, smiling at their parents in my usual haha I’m an idiot gaijin way, when the gods of randomness started this up in my ears
The best song, and the best video, from one of the biggest artists of all time: Jacko’s Thriller. I remember the hype when this was released, and fortunately it really lived up to it. What a performer he was.
Carrying on the Michael Jackson theme, here’s the Spanish group Broken Peach and their mash-up of Bad and Ghostbusters, with all the Halloween make-up you could want.
I love the Banshees version of this but this is great…
I went in search of this old classic, and it turned out to be monstrous in ways I had not appreciated before

That was a fine version of Tam Lin with Fairport and Chris While. No idea why it just has the link.
Not forgetting Dylan’s Theme Time Radio Hour for Halloween.
Anyone remember Ghostwatch in 1992? A possessed Parky, terrified Sarah Greene, ‘switchboards jammed’ etc?
Only came across this today, it’s rather good

The Ballad of Dwight Fry
The Nightmare Returns
Fabulous fare from Yachts tribute act The Yachtles…

I am going to a Bessie Smith tribute next week. A great list if I knew half of them but very intriguing.

The Misfits – Halloween
(I really think this would benefit from some Steven Wilson re-mixing dust)
I just realised that the absence of any Roky Erickson leaves us all in danger of being demoted to civilian status…
Phew!

Just came on the radio
Not Halloween at all, but a great song about a ghost
