The big where she does a really witchy “ah-ha!” at the end of the first verse of MacArthur Park is horrible, the rest of it is fantastic

Dancing In The City is still ok of my favourite singles of 78. Absolutely brilliant

Although the album was 1977, this was a 1978 single. Absolute pop perfection
I loved this as a kid, and still do

Not often Mike. It was the heaviest rainfall in forty years apparently. Over here on the east coast we’re between the mountains and the sea and it has a different sort of microclimate to Dubai and the l […]

We got flooded out about 10 days ago and moved everything (including ourselves) until the water subsided enough to go back down.
Google “flood” and “Fujairah” is you want to see what happened.
Anyway, most of the […] -

I’ve got an Aerosmith compilation that I blamed my wife for having before we met. She swears blind she doesn’t know where it came from.
I’ve also got a burned CDr of jangly 80s indie bands (with a track […] -

I’m generally one of life’s great mitherers and worriers, always have been since I was a kid. Often about nothing or imagined problems.
This is a source of constant pain for my wife so she bought me Dale Car […]

This news knocked me back a bit as I’ve enjoyed his music pretty much my whole listening life.
We saw the Fatima Mansions at the Barrel Organ in Brum back in 91 and it was utterly mind-blowing.
His last s […] -

Not well known by title but used a fair bit as background music on 80s telly docs

I Iike Cusack and the idea of him in an 80s time travel comedy sounded like a good one to me.

I used to work in an office with a couple of guys who were season tickets holders down the blues when I’d just started work in the late 80s. At a night match one of them managed to yawn so hard he dislocated h […]

I’ve also seen plenty of cut films (and even a re-ordered Pulp Fiction) back in the late 90s in Dubai so I’ve missed some large chunks of films. Mostly things I’d never bother to go and see in their full form as well

My wife walked out of the second one to go to the lav when the old guy surrounded by tellies was making loads of exposition that she couldn’t get. And when she came back it had finished and I was sat there on m […]

Despite being set in Abu Dhabi, they weren’t allowed to film there. And it wasn’t shown in the UAE either (they reckoned they could have cut it to make it showable but it wouldn’t have lasted long enough for i […]

This will make you laugh (or cry) but we went to see a film by Aleksandr Sokurov at a film festival which was so mind boggling boring that we walked out (we enjoyed The Russian Ark btw so it wasn’t that). And t […]

All cinema walk-outs for me.
Hot Tub Time Machine sounded like a great idea and had a few decent reviews but just wasn’t funny at all so we left about a third of the way. Didn’t get to the end of Planet Ter […]
