Emitt Rhodes has passed. I discovered him on the 80s LP “ Fresh as a Daisy,” which led me back to his debut album. Of course, there’s also the Fairport Convention crossover with their cover of “Time Will Show the Wiser.”

I saw this last night. Live by The Merry-Go-Round is one of my favourite tracks. I have a compilation which has The Merry-Go-Round’s album and Rhodes’ debut album on, as well as a few other tracks. In fact, I shall go and stick it on.
That’s a real shame. I came to him via the splendid Probe sampler LP called ‘Spirit Of Rock’ that the ever optimistic MFP label put out in 1972. There was a ridiculously eclectic selection on there, and I think I probably paid all of 99p to purchase it in Woolies. Emitt’s song ‘Tame The Lion’ is the catchy highlight of the piece, and had me hooked. And then his relatively recent (2016) ‘Rainbow Ends’ album, out of the blue after a ludicrously long silence, proved to be a charmer too. The good guys always seem to leave too early. Condolences to all who were close to him. RIP
Rainbow Ends was one of my favourite albums of the last 20 years, so I was sad to hear this news.
Great musician who success passed by.
The two Emitt Rhodes albums that I know are “Emitt Rhodes” (1970) and “Mirror” (1971).
They’re both really good.
RIP
What was it that they said about Emitt Rhodes when those albums came out? Emitt Rhodes – a one man Beatles.
Or perhaps The Beatles – a four man Emmit Rhodes?
An incredible talent.
Dunno why, always muddle him up with Elliott Smith. But he sounds my sorta guy, so those nice fellows at Discogs have just sent me Rainbow Ends.
