Happy Boxing Day everyone, I’m looking forward to my cold meats, baked potato and pickled onions a bit later but first some advice please.
I have an ancient but excellent TEAC music system which I’ve recently re-installed in my new kitchen which btw is still waiting for the proper worktops currently in a Brexited dock somewhere…
The TEAC has a CD player which has recently developed a small fault. When you load a cd and try to ffwd to a particular track it more often than not just does something random like attempt to repeat all tracks or even switch to the DAB radio. Is this fault likely to be something that can be easily solved, a simple cleaning job maybe?
The TEAC also has an iPod dock (No judging please, I like my iPod, i like physical product too,) and I’m keen to keep it in place though as it does still sound good even if it’s a little bulky and apparently not suiting the minimalist aesthetic the new kitchen has. (Or will have when we get the worktops.)
I told my wife I “know” someone in Cambridgeshire who can assist (No answers involving Fiio just yet please,) ) and she said something about it all being a bit dull..

At risk of further dullness, model number(s), please. I might be able to find/guess what’s going on behind the panel.
Also, does it have a remote control? If so, does it still misbehave when operated remotely?
Ah, you’ve clearly done this sort of thing before! I didn’t think about the remote but that works perfectly, it plays , ffwds and changes function.
It’s one of these. Like I said, don’t judge me!

Ah, tactile switches. These are little more than a conductive puck which shorts together two copper PCB pads when you press the button. These don’t have an old-fashioned spring inside, but the spring mechanism is a bit of squidgy rubbery plastic. As the plastic ages it either goes dry and stiff, or soft and sticky.
Either way, the switch signal is no longer Off… On… Off but becomes Off-On-Off-On-Off-On-Off (known in the trade as “Switch Bounce” and the microprocessor which is expecting a nice clean Off… On… Off signal gets its knickers in a twist.
There’s nothing you can do except use the remote or buy something else instead.
Just me, then …
Oh stoppit HP.
I am as God made me, sir …
Perfect, genuine, complete, crystalline, pure.
You twisted old fruit…
But he talks so hip, man!
Seriously though but, pals, I do find “Ah, tactile switches. These are little more than a conductive puck which shorts together two copper PCB pads when you press the button. These don’t have an old-fashioned spring inside, but the spring mechanism is a bit of squidgy rubbery plastic” strangely arousing. Poetry oft is. And fentonsteve is a poet.
Fentonsteve is a poet
But he doesn’t know it
He speaks in dull rhyme
Quite a lot of the time
Yet stuggles to finish his point
Anoint anoint
Anoint my head, anointy-nointy.
Also; ‘Conductive Puck’ – three more from them later. . .
Looks like one of those Soviet era pics on twitter.
“See Darling, I told you he was…”
Using the remote will certainly do for now until I arrive kicking and screaming into the 21st century.
Though I do have that Spotify thing which I find is perfectly fine and has its time and place but there was this one time I was wanting to hear Rossmore Road by Barry Andrews and you know what, did Spotify have it? No they did not and I don’t really enjoy youTu…sniiiiiip.
I did warn you!
