Loved it. A few flaws, could have done with more backstory for the gang, but when it’s firing, it’s some of the best Star Wars ever made. And the last shot had me, and I suspect most viewers of a certain age, choked right up. Also some top quality Star Destroyer porn.
Going again tonight with the nine year old. I think it might be traumatic.
@dai obviously you know your child best, but if she struggled with Force Awakens I’d definitely say give this a swerve. It’s much darker and significantly more intense than that film, with none of the fairytale quality. To be honest, it’s really a film for people who grew up with a New Hope, not the new wave of fans. That said, there were a few kids around 9 and 10 at the morning screening I went to yesterday, and none of them appeared to be leaving in tears.
She turned out to be fine with it! A bit fidgety during some of the talky bits about spies and defectors, but not fazed by the intensity of the battle scenes at all.
Pretty much, yeah. It was only 24 hours between screenings, so it was all still very fresh in memory, which did detract a bit from the intensity of the last half hour, but on the upside, I picked up on odd dialogue lines that illuminated characters a bit better, and even more Easter eggs (Chopper from Rebels is in it!).
Edit – SPOILER ALERT
Saw it at the weekend – really enjoyed it. Something quite sad about the fact non of the Rebel Alliance on Scarif survive that final battle.
Found it fairly emotional at the end, when you realise it is leading directly in to the opening scene in New Hope.
Yes – apologies, I’ve edited with a spoiler alert.
So sorry, I thought earlier in this thread there was in-depth chat about the plot, but it must have been a thread on a different message board!
Shit then?
Well at least he was clear.
Pots and kettles, bri.

And the bit in the corridor immediately before that last shot…HELL YEAH
Pretty much the whole of the last half hour – HELL YEAH
Was going to ask if it is suitable for my 10 yr old. I thought Episode VII was a little too dark and violent for her @Kid Dynamite.
@Kid-Dynamite

Thanks, she has seen Episodes IV to VI I think. Definitely watched Return of the Jedi with me, but that was more or less a kids film *@Kid-Dynamite
* with some dark/scary stuff

Was it as good second time round?

In Sweden, it’s been given an 11 certificate which means that kids from 7 can see it in the company of their parents. You’ve certainly sold it to me.
Let’s now see if I can persuade my nonchalant teenager to take me to the flicks as a Xmas treat.
Tickets already booked.
Anyone spilling spoilers will be visited by a very unpleasant bunch of troopers.
I saw something of a spoiler on the Guardian website (main page), so beware. Bad show I though a day after opening
insert “stormtroopers can’t hit anything” joke…
Stormtroopers can’t hit anything.
What’s ‘appened to Emmurrrrr?
