Very funny guy, very sad loss. I try to limit my time on Twitter but I spent a great 20 minutes on there at lunchtime today watching some clips people posted from “… Countdown”, time well spent.
RIP Sean

Belated thanks for the review, very interested in this one. I could do without adding another long book to the pile but I am always fascinated by musicians and their finances, and I imagine that the fact that the […]

@kaisfatdad Recently read Mayflies myself, hooked in by the appearance of the very gig you’ve highlighted. A lovely book, and I hope it’s not a spoiler to say that the very last paragraph is a beauty.
Also, […]

Just to echo much of the above…
While Woodface has The Hits and is pretty damn fine, Together Alone is a brilliant album too and worth seeking out for those who want a primer. I listened to it last night […]

Green’s voice is indeed a thing of wonder when witnessed live.
Saw them in Dublin around the last album and it was fantastic.

Tuned in to this one myself this morning after hearing Hard Drive… lovely stuff. Nice review too, didn’t know about the Berman connection

Howe Gelb gets a namecheck on last week’s Adam Buxton podcast with Stewart Lee, which I listened to only an hour ago.
Stew’s career was going down the dumper and he was thinking of jacking it in. He gave Giant […]

A lapsed follower from their 80s heyday, when I loved them. When I was about 11, a lad in the class was going to see them live with his big sister and i was very jealous.
Skip forward a long time, and the […]

OK, I’m basing this on three listens only, but I think it’s wonderful… joyous, life-affirming, strange, wildly over-ambitious. Very hard to make a coherent whole out of such a range of guests, but this manages […]

Paddy is the most frustrating answer to this question – you know he’s sitting on a big pile of songs, many will be glorious, and we might never hear them. A new album was ‘definitely’ coming in late 2019, and […]

Ooops – forgot the major ‘Heard’ of the month which is The Divine Comedy boxset. I’ve never spent as much on a CD package but i couldn’t resist this. Beautifully packaged. I’ve never had the kind of ear that […]

Working Men’s Club – don’t normally go for the shouty young types favoured by 6music but this lot sound like they have progressed beyond their Joy Division records to get to at least early New Order, […] -

Great review. I would agree that ESB and Blinking Lights are the best Eels albums, and he was perhaps repeating himself on recent albums, but I think the new one sounds like a winner so far.
The two songs you […]

I am probably more positively disposed to all things Britpop than most on here, but agree that Dog Man Star was a high watermark for the era. Brilliant album.
Their revival has been pretty good too, especially […]

I was a huge fan of The National from Alligator on, but they lost me a bit over the last couple of albums. Whether this is just typical “preferred the earlier stuff” snobbery or not I’ll let you decide. However, […]

Impressive work Dai, but REM’s fourth is indeed my favourite and I have a sneaky regard for the fourth by Supergrass too. I can’t agree with the maybe for Prefab Sprout though – Steve McQueen #2 and Jordan #5 are […]

fentonsteve/Hooky, with whom I agree (silently) on these pages frequently, is slightly harsh above. Those 27 years have only produced 3 albums (and an outtakes collection) and the last one was pretty good.
