I recognised his voice straight away, it was obvious to me. I loved Aha back in the 80’s and had a bit of a boy crush on Morten in his rugged double denim and granite cheekbones. It turned out in the end I wanted to be him rather than be with him…. Anyway no surprise to know that I lost them post 80s and I’m sure I’ve seen nice things written about them here before. So any grown up Aha recommendations would be welcome.
Viking is too obvious its Morten Harket #MaskedSingerUK

Never mind Morten, how much more obvious could Lenny Henry have been without carrying a big sign reading, ‘Hello! I’m Lenny Henry!!’
It really was. I was expecting him to yell “Katanga my friend” or do his David Bellamy…
yep these judges verdicts are truly ridiculous. Lenny Henry was a definite from the start. its a fun show but clearly they are told to give stupid answers. Stephen Fry? Not even funny.
I’d never come across this The Masked Singer programme so decided to check it out on YouTube after reading this thread. I looked at both UK and USA versions and from a brief viewing I assume the judges are just pretending not to know who’s behind the mask? In both countries’ verisons, when people I’ve never heard of much less recognise are revealed, the judges and some spotlighted members of the audience recognise them immediately and gasp “Wow! It’s him/her!”
(File this comment under: “reality TV a hoax” and other shocking revelations.)
I have only seen the US one and we enjoy it. The costumes are really impressive.
Mickey Rourke mumbled his way through one performance and took his own mask off because he was too hot. That was good telly.
A fine band and I have had a little refresher session to recall some very good songs of theirs – Train of Thought, Manhattan Skyline, You are the One, Touchy! and many more.
And yet The Sun Always Shines on TV is one of those unstoppable pop songs. A really confident follow up to Take on Me, which took a few goes to be a hit.
A copper-bottomed pop classic.
Al absolute belters….
Brave people… I haven’t tuned in to ITV on a Saturday Night since the days of the Grumbleweeds.
*shudders*
GrumbleGroan…
Their second album is a proper good record.
The Summer Solstice concert they did a few years ago (under the MTV unplugged banner) was very good. It even featured a guest appearance from Ian McCulloch (doing The Killing Moon).
Subtleties are often lost on professional musicians.
That Take On Me performance is terrific. Too many 80’s gems that got lost amongst the synths, the videos or the ‘image’. See also Gary Jules version of ‘Mad World’.
I always get him mixed up with Viggo Morgenstein.
Who is this Vimto Morganstanley?
Posh gigs at Newmarket Races were popular for a few years BC. My daughter and a schoolfriend saw a boyband there.
A couple of years ago, a-ha performed at the Cambridge United ground (clubhouse?). They must have been strapped for cash.
A lapsed follower from their 80s heyday, when I loved them. When I was about 11, a lad in the class was going to see them live with his big sister and i was very jealous.
Skip forward a long time, and the Summer Solstice/MTV unplugged set mentioned above came to my attention – all the classics that you need plus some of their more recent stuff that you may not know, all done in a way that highlights what a great pop voice Morten has.
It rekindled my interest in them to the extent that i finally saw them for the first time maybe 18 months back in Dublin, it was fantastic. I’ve seen frontmen with more charisma than Morten, but few who looked better in their 60s, the bastard.
This was always a favourite of mine:

It bloomin’ is! Off Scoundrel Days which is the their second album I mentioned briefly ⬆️. Not a difficult second album btw.
There’s a lovely bass line in this too.
I`ve always been a fan of Aha, great pop tunes that went darker with every album. I can thoroughly recommend 2000s Minor Earth, Major Sky. I always think it was an album that Roxy Music wanted to make.
Stay on these Roads is a lovely tune, albeit slightly hidden beneath an 80s sheen.
