Can’t see why you’d find it Straits-ish, Zanti. Is it the twiddly guitar bits?
Mr Tilbrook can be heard getting twiddly on a few live YouTube clips. He’s quite an accomplished geetar player.
Not a Bad song, but not up to the standard of Squeeze hits of yore IMO.
you work at T&C in Glastonbury, don’t you? Did you catch him in the Green Room? On the subject of his being an ‘accomplished guitar player’ I lost count of the times i muttered ‘wanker’….
What’s not to love? All the Squeeze tropes present and correct: summery feel, Tillbrook vocals joined by Difford for the octave chorus, odd keyboard middle 8s, twiddly guitar solo. Almost too self-referencing but could be an outtake from yonks ago. (And possibly was, written at least.) You get at least 4 on each side, with a Difford solo vocal one (with more added sound noises, maybe balalaikas) and a token one from whoever else is in the band these days to fill it out.
I like Squeeze but not so keen on that. It sounds a bit like a Dire Straits record.Might grow on me.

It would be a happy day except I tried to order this yesterday and it said “not available in your country.” Grrr!!!
Oh well, at least they’re playing reasonably locally in October.
presumeably this is from the tv adaptation of Danny Baker’s autobiography starring Peter Kay among others.

Yes, that sounds like wonderful classic Squeeze to me. A bit reminiscent of Pulling Mussels From A Shell to my ears, and that’s okay with me.
