You might not notice the Australian arm of the Grauniad, but it has a rather nice toon called “First Dog On The Moon”. The politics may not be to all tastes, but the latest one on music and Australia’s entry into the Eurovision Song Contest next year is up our collective alley, albeit a bit Aussie-centric on the politician references.

Interesting.
The cartoonist knows their rock music!
So is there an Australian edition of the Grauniad?
mikethep says
Oh yes! Big fan…I’ve occasionally tried to get UK chums interested in him, but all tumbleweed so far.
And yes, there’s an Oz Grauniad, that and The Monthly are about the only left-leaning organs around, unless you count the ABC, which of course you don’t because it’s supposed to be politically impartial. Sound familiar? Everything else is either News International or Fairfax, and there’s not much to choose between them. Do I exaggerate, Harold?
Harold Holt says
Not much at all. Although I would touch a Murdoch imprint with yours, let alone mine, so SMH and ABC/SBS all the way for me.
There’s a fantastic article on the Oz Grauniad by Geoff Lemon on how the current channel 9 commentators with Mark Nicholas are killing the legacy of Richie Bernard. The article is fantastic, the comments thread is astounding. If you like cricket that is. It is the only public comments thread I’ve gone more than two posts through (outside this crowd anyway), and it was over 300 posts when last I perused it. Haven’t got the link to hand, but search their sites for “Geoff Lemon benaud” should find it….
Harold Holt says
Of course, I meant would NOT touch a Murdoch rag…etc
Harold Holt says
And “Richie Benaud”. Bloody spell check.
For the cricket fans, that article is at http://www.theguardian.com/sport/blog/2015/feb/13/channel-nine-destroying-cricket-legacy
and the comments at http://www.theguardian.com/sport/blog/2015/feb/13/channel-nine-destroying-cricket-legacy#comments are just shy of 800, with I’d guess 99.99% agreement on the article. Amazing.

Love FDOTM. He also knows his marsupials. As for Eurovision, I think they’ve missed their chance not sending Joe Dolce to do a follow up to Shaddupa Your Face.
chilli ray virus says
Im a FDOTM fan too but its way too Aussie-parochial to translate internationally.

I know what you mean. There are a few that will travel, but I agree it’s mostly local gags for local people. Very good gags, but local ones.
