I like The Doors, but I prefer The Stranglers. I also like Steely Dan, but I prefer Danny Wilson.
Any more Aldi versions of better known bands/artists and do you prefer the copycats? Anybody prefer Shaky to Elvis? Brotherhood Of Man to Abba? More to the point, is the 60s David Bowie an Aldi version of Anthony Newley? And how many bands are Oasis the Aldi version of?
With apologies to Aldi, of course, who probably do some very nice things, but I’m sure you know what I mean.

I preferred Whiteout to Oasis. Actually I now prefer nearly everyone to Oasis.

I love Captain Beefheart and Velvet Underground, but I REALLY love The Fall.
Baron Harkonnen says
Comparing The Doors and Steely Dan to The Stranglers and Danny Who? Is daft, IMO.

I like Suicide but I love Soft Cell
Moose the Mooche says
I generally prefer Bowie to Newley.
P.S.. I enjoyed “Aldi probably do some nice things”… for an insane moment we might have thought an Afterworder had been brushing shoulders with the great unwashed in the world’s fastest growing supermarket. Thankfully this is not the case.

I shop at Aldi all the time. Great veg, nice, cheap fish & bargains in tins (£1:98 for a wild salmon every bit as good as Princes). Best of all, I get to wait in a queue for ages to pay. The things people put in their baskets are fascinating.
Lemonhope says
got to take issue over the veg – it just doesn’t last as well as other retailers veg in my experience
Moose the Mooche says
I recently remarked that our local appears to have a “minimum breast size” for female cashiers.
Just sayin’.
Tiggerlion says
That must be a local recruitment criteria.
Lemonhope says
Did you say it out loud in the store? Please say yes
Moose the Mooche says
Yes, just as the cashier was scanning my butternut squash.
BEEP!
minibreakfast says
Re. the tinned fish. Most own brands, Aldi included, use sustainable line-caught tuna. Princes and John West do not.

So all the more reason to shop at Aldi. I wish there was one near me!
fentonsteve says
Does that make the Fabs the Waitrose (or M&S) option?
Moose the Mooche says
I like the Lurkers, who would probably be something like Presto.
Sewer Robot says
The first albums by The Clash and The Undertones owe almost everything to The Ramones – respec’ due! – but they are also much better.
Baron Counterpane says
Not quite the same thing but I prefer post- to pre-Godley-and-Creme-departure when it comes to 10cc.
Tiggerlion says
You are clearly not very well.
Paul Wad says
Well I much prefer listening to Chris Difford’s solo albums than any Squeeze album. I find Squeeze’s albums a little disappointing compared to their singles, but Difford’s solo albums are excellent. If you’re a Stephen Duffy fan you’ll find much to like, as the sound is very similar.

I’ve always enjoyed Chris (and Glenn’s) solo albums, but they are definitely better together (with the exception of the last album before the 15 year break, Domino, which suffered from the fact that C & G’s relationship had collapsed).

I once shoved a molten flute up the arse of a Tyrannosauras Rex fan death wizard in mimicry of Edward II to make a point about The Incredible String Band.
Billybob Dylan says
How did you manage to insert said flute if it was molten? Surely you would have had to pour it in?
