Looks like The Charlatan’s Tim Burgess has solved the problem gig goers have been facing for a while, by launching an online souvenir ticket generator. For those of us who like, hoard or display tickets to gigs from the past, the TOOIK hitmaker has announced a tool to help satisfy the need for a physical stub. As mentioned here in the NME, it’s to help promote the London Merch Market-

So, this leads me to two questions- Do you have a favourite ticket and if so what do you do with it? I was always a bit jealous of a friend of mine who kept all of the old tickets and then had them framed. I think I have a few in a box in the loft. Perhaps I should go up and have a look, although I’m not sure if I could get away with having many of them on display.

I have a cork pin-board on the back of the door to my ‘office/den’ room. On return from a gig, the tickets get pinned there. I am long out of space for new ones, so they are in places four or five layers thick now.
So did I until one day when I was moving flats I had a declutter and turfed out stacks of tickets, programmes, old letters etc. I’ve regretted it ever since.
They used to have great tickets in Switzerland, tickets in North America were incredibly boring when they existed. I have this one. I kept most of them, once considered getting a bedspread or quilt cover made with their images, but I didn’t

It’s cheating.
Yes, indeed.
I’ve had a look and it seems a bit odd. If you want to recreate an historical ticket, you need to know the price, promoter etc. which I would only know if I still have the original ticket!
It made me think though that it would be nice if setlist.fm introduced an option for users to upload a scan of an actual ticket for each gig listed.
If we have a consistent replacement for Imgur, maybe we could upload a few “fancy” tickets for the delectation of the readers? Or not…
I’d love to see everyone’s favourite tickets!
In the late 80s to early 90s I went through a phase of attaching concert tickets to the inner sleeve of the LP that the tour was promoting. Every now and then I play one of them and it brings back old memories, not least of how relatively cheap concerts used to be.
I keep some of mine in a frame in the downstairs loo, I have loads more as I was a regular gig goer from the 70’s – early 00’s, ie before kids…

I’m happy to reminisce about any of these gigs – at least what I can remember of them. My first was Queen at Earls Court June 1977
I have a couple of these – great for keeping all those stubs in one place….and in chronological order!
