ECM have reported the death of the great Polish trumpeter.
Saw him twice, both times with a crack band of young tyros. Often reminded me of 70s dense funky Miles with his playing.

Ace trumpeter. His last album, December Avenue, from 2017, is excellent as always. His playing was described as lyrical. Even at his most free, he never forgot there was a melody as his starting point.

Sad news. Great, great player. I was so pleased that I finally got to see him live at a club in Stockholm a couple of years ago. His run of recordings on ERM in the last 20 years of his life was really strong. My favourites are: Soul of Things, Suspended Night, Dark Eyes, and Wisława.
I’m sad and embarrassed to say that Tomasz Stanko is new to me, but I’ve got Soul of Things playing right now and its the kind of thing that is right up my street. I shall check out the rest.
