It’s Friday evening and after a lovely sunny week it’s bloody snowing here. What a start to the weekend!
So I’m going to turn on that old Afterword Jukebox and cheer myself up with some tunes. Old, new. borrowed, blue and probably demographically inappropriate. Please join me and bung on a few tracks.
You’ll probably empty the place if you put on a two hour track of atonal honking. But other than that, anything goes! So please surprise us!
I’ll kick with a new song from local Stockholm heroes Teddybears. They played an enormous free gig just down the road from us this summer to the delight of my kids. My nine year old daughter was with me in the moshpit and loving every second of it.
Bog off.
Oh… go on then ffs..

Thanks Rob! You’re a star!

After a fab week by the sea I’ve just spent the last hour or so watching one of the world’s highest tides drifting into Ilfracombe harbour. 10 metres apparently.
The sun has shone for most of the week, ice cream, pasties, cream teas, fish & chips and beer have been consumed. Yes, this England in March and of course Blondie have an apt choon.

Ilfracombe is well ahead of us then. Sounds idyllic.
Can’t grumble. Good luck with the snow.
The snow is not settling mercifully. It knows that summer is on its way.
Not music, but an old favourite:
This is much more musical. The way PS sings this is the way I sing pretty much everything. and listen to the way the piano player goes at it. Shame they get interrupted.
The fab Rilo Kiley got mentioned on the Storytelling thread, Here they are in their heyday.

What I’m listening to right now:
The Prisoners – Coming Home
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvzDtxEnW54
Bloody love The Prisoners. One of my all time favourite bands.
I was up & down the M1 today, singing along to the fabulous Fifth Dimension. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xHwDI2rzko
And raise some Schnapps to Michael Brown of The Left Banke who passed away today
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHTEAcIndb0
and this is whats playing now
(something in me just made me want to share it)

Share away, Rigid! That’s what this place is all about.
These glimpses into others’ Friday night listening are great fun.
This mighty, life-affirming tune came up on shuffle tonight. My iPod loves me and knows it is Friday night.
continuing the train motif:
Robyn Hitchcock – I Often Dream Of Trains
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sAbO87zDqx0
I friggin’ love that album.
Not only is it snowing; I just got home after being stuck in the metro for 50 minutes while the guards and the police were chasing peole who were moving about on the tracks in the tunnels, probably armed with spray cans of paint (the tunnel dwellers, not the police…)
Of course it would happen the first night in probably six months when I had dared to buy some ice cream!
I’m eating it now, it’s more like a soup but it tastes good.
So here’s “En kväll i tunnelbanan” (“A night in the subway”) by Noice to illustrate my Friday evening:
Jinkies, Lo. It’s lively out there on a Friday night. Nothing more exciting than Skavlan here.
Like Mr Zimmerman said, Play it fookin loud!
The Meat Beats from 1989. Subsequently ripped off, er, borrowed by the Chemicals. I heard this on John Peel and it put a big grin on my spotty young face.
A couple of old favourites
and Sally Go Round The Roses
Any explanations of what the lyrics are about welcome
What a wonderful variety of stuff this jukebox has been playing!
Not been able to get to the computer until now.
Earlier today I was listening to these psychedelic Aussies. Promising.
Time for bed!
Skank in bed? Cor, those were the days.
Just one more psychedelic experience before Bedfordshire!
