Sad to hear of the death of guitarist Manuel Gottsching. A founder member of Ash Ra Temple with Klaus Schulze in the early 70s, he then went solo under the name of Ashra, releasing the excellent New Age of Earth. […]

Michael Collins died yesterday, aged 90. The forgotten man on the Apollo 11 mission, I always wondered what he felt on his own as he went round the other side of the moon, out of contact with NASA and the rest of […]

That’s a shame. 77 is no age these days. Always like Peter’s ‘dumb’ character.
Not sure what the current view is on the pre-fab 4, but I loved The Monkees. There’s not many greater runs of singles like this: Last […] -

The Telegraph version of the article is here:
You can get free access to a limited number of articles per month, so possibly worth subscribing.
As for what Birchill has to say. Well, it’s just the usual polemic […]

I thought the line ‘Baby Jane’s in Acapulco’ was a reference to Warhol’s Baby Jane Holzer (there’s a reference to her again in the penultimate line), not Whatever Happened To ….

I agree entirely. I have two issues with SOTS.
1. The music. I loved it when Matthews played some nugget that I’d never heard before eg Magic Potion by The Open Mind. No fear of that with TB. He and Swerne chose […] -

Me too but I gave up a bit earlier. I liked him up to Blood and Chocolate/Spike and bought all his albums. I even forgave him Goodbye Cruel World. However, what finished me off was his voice. It’s fine when backed […]

I hate to be a pedant but Atem was the last of this batch (1973), following Zeit (1972), not the other way round.

Found this edition of the French programme Pop Deux, dated December 5th 1970.
It starts with a recording of Woody Guthrie followed by live performances by Blodwyn Pig, Matthews Southern Comfort. The best is last: […] -

Just found this. Elvis Costello/Declan MacManus in his band Flip City in 1974 at a festival in London. Starts around 43.30 in. They play 2 songs, sounding very pub-rockish.
