I am sure I read it somewhere.
CSN &Y sounded so bad they rerecorded their performance. But I was surprised to read about Cocker, it being a very different performance.
I’ve had this challenged and now I can’t find the reference.
Can anyone back me up or was I dreaming.
Btw. In my search I came across this youtube posting of every Woodstock performance available to post.
Being a good boy I will post the link in the comments.
According to the 38-CD set it‘s the original recording – despite the incoming rainstorm…
Yes it was. According to this, backing vocals were added.

That makes sense, because if you listen to other tracks that weren’t on the album, the b Vox are very quiet.
To my ears, it also sounds a bit like there are some drum fixes here and there.
But not Joe’s vocal, which was the main point of contention.
I seem to recall having heard that his usual backing vocalists couldn’t get there in time, so two blokes from the band did the bv – which is obvious when you see the filmed performance, and they don’t sound great, so I don’t blame them for fixing it for the album (if they did – I’ve never heard the soundtrack).
In need of good ears? May I present @pencilsqueezer?
Good grief. I think younger ears than mine are required.
Well, the late Henry McCullough (Joe’s guitar player on the day) told me matter of factly one day in the 90s that Joe had re-recorded his vocal for it. Henry had no reason to make that up and was a very down to earth character. Far from looking for publicity, he told me this a few months AFTER I’d interviewed him on Woodstock for ‘Mojo’!
On a similar theme, Dave Pegg once told me that Fairport Convention had re-recorded ‘Dirty Linen’ for the ‘Glastonbury Fayre’ film – again, just because of technical issues.
So I’m not mad after all !!!
Mmmm
