Where might one go about purchasing a Nick Lowe vinyl disc for example? I’m in the Yorkshire & The Humber region so anywhere within reasonable travelling distance considered.
Then I just need to acquire a turntable, which is a whole ‘nother thread 🙂
Well if your near Leeds, Jumbo records in the merrion center or Crash on the Headrow should be able to help.
Thanks, will check them out.
Just below Crash is Wall of Sound, second hand vinyl. Run by a friend of mine so I have to state bias.
Relics Records on New Briggate is the best I think.
You can get a kebab while you are up there too.
Obviously there has been a constant demand for rare groove and Northern Soul vinyl. It being many years since I set foot in an independent record shop – do such establishments cater for both that and rock’n’roll, country etc as it’s the latter I’m interested in at the moment?
They sell what they’ve got – and all of them are different – go and have a browse, get stuck in and have a look in the bargain bins and dusty corners – that’s the whole point – you might find a nice surprise. If that level of uncertainty is not for you, shop online and you’ll get *exactly what you want* – but please consider that last statement for a moment.
Sheffield has Record Collector up on Fulwood Road which has a nice selection of new and used vinyl (closed Wednesdays and Sundays)
Also in Sheffield city centre,in The Forum, is Bear Tree Records which is crammed full of new vinyl (open 7 days)
In Hull there is Wrecking Ball Music in the Princess Quay shopping centre (open 7 days) and in the Trinity Market Spin It Discs with thousands of second hand records (closed Sundays)
Huddersfield has Wall of Sound with a great selection of new vinyl and a basement of used lps (open 7 days)
A couple in Lincolnshire.
Off The Beaten Tracks in Louth is well worth a rummage (closed Sundays and Mondays) as is Back To Mono in Lincoln city centre (closed Sundays)
Hope this is of use. I would check their websites regarding opening times but these are up to date when I last checked.
Wall of Sound in Huddersfield is now Vinyl Tap.
As above WOS is now in Leeds.
Ah, Record Collector. I spent an unfeasably large proportion of my student grant there at the end of the 70’s/early 80’s. Good to know they’re still thriving.
Barry Everard, who owns it, is retiring soon. The CD bit is probably gonna go as he is looking to sell it on with the intention of it maybe being a food place, but the vinyl wing is still gonna be a going concern as will – I think – the website.
Oh, that’s sad news. I too spent much of my student grant (1982-85) at the Record Collector. I still go in once a month or so to buy CDs but don’t buy vinyl.
Broomhill doesn’t need another eaterie.
There’s a fine vinyl shop and cafe in York.
cheers all.
King Bee Records In Manchester has a huge treasure trove of rare northern soul records.
