Having heard a couple of songs by BNC on the radio this evening, my missus was suitably impressed (she’s never heard her before). This put me to thinking that I’d like to get her a CD as part of her Valentine’s surprises. I know there are a few fans around here, and wondered if there was a good introductory/primer album, other than the Greatest Hits. Would welcome your advice. Thanks.

Go for Sand and Water – it was the one that arguably launched her career in the UK. Played that cd to a work colleague and she became a huge fan thereafter.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjPEVLEC0oo , the standout track from “Look”, about 2007, would be my commendation.
Played to life by the late Telford Wogan, it rejigged her career over here, and she regularly tours, usually with Maartin Allcock, ex-Fairport alumnus. (And her first LP effectively was her and the then Fairport rhythm section, not that she’s remotely folky in the UK sense of the word)
