Just noticed on the HMV site that the big sale has had the discount increased to 50% .
Now they’re talking, I wouldn’t hang around though, it does state limited time only.

Musings on the byways of popular culture
50% or up to 50%?
There is a big difference
There are 1804 items on the website sale. You just enter DEAL50 in the code box to get any of these items at half price. As per usual some of their prices are ruddy daft but there are bargains to be found in this list, believe me.
If you opt for click & collect , get it delivered to your local HMV and you don’t pay postage on any amount, even if it’s just a fiver.
I did manage to find a couple* of LPs I don’t already have at reasonable prices (after the 50% discount) but two out of 720 wasn’t a great hit rate. I was being paid during the search, so it wasn’t time totally wasted.
(*) one was a Serge Gainsbourg live double album, with Sly & Robbie and Ansel Collins in the band, only released in France. I was quite chuffed by that.
I was in a HMV during a brief UK visit last week (for a funeral), they had vinyl items on sale at 18 quid each. That’s a sale?
@dai that’s very much a sale. Average price for vinyl in Uk is circa £30.00.
The new Taylor Swift released today is £43 and the fucking cd is £23 on Amazon.
They will kill the resurgence if they are not careful.
Taylor is a similar price here on Amazon, in their defence it’s a double on vinyl, possibly a quadruple vinyl coming as she released another double album’s worth at 2am today. Vinyl here in general for older titles would probably be around 15-20 quid for a single album (plus tax).
TTPD is £33.99 on Taylor’s website, which is still extortionate but not HMV/Amazon extortionate, even with postage.
Decent for a double I would say
I just paid£22 quid for the new pearl jam cd.actually thought for that price it was a deluxe version.but nope just the single cd.
I plugged loads of gaps in my collection when they used to do the two records for £30 (including free delivery). Under the current pricing structure, you struggle to get that even with 50% off – which is bonkers.
Also never forgiven them for closing their loyalty points scheme, with no warning, meaning I, like many I’m sure, lost all my points….
I’ve just copped a copy of The Band 50th anniversary double CD for 12 sovs.
The website must be keeping the shops open. I found to my surprise the Uxbridge HMV still open hidden away in the back of the precinct. No customers other than a few dusty middle aged men like me.
Music prices were reasonable but half the shop is still DVDs… they can’t sell a thing surely
Managed to get the whole Eagles studio box set for £20 which was worth the visit.
They make it easy
But aren’t those ‘dusty middle aged men’ the hundred pound men?
