That’s just made my day! Blissful memories of countless fly-bys at air shows. It will be sad when she’s no longer airworthy; the fruits of the white heat of technology have mostly been cloned or improved upon and moved to the far east, but there was a time, and it wasn’t that long ago.

Yes we saw her as well, a fantastic sight. But with a lot of sadness with the terrible news from Shoreham.

In Empire of the Clouds by James Hamilton-Paterson writes very well about first seeing this plane, the sense of wonder he felt and how it began a life-long love of planes and particularly the post war British planes.
There’s one of those permanently parked at the edge of the runway by the road that runs past Southend “London” airport.
